Liver transplant

Hi all,

I've just been diagnosed with a rare chronic liver desease called PSC. In about 10 years from now I will need a liver transplant. :sad: I'm currently trying to figure out my chances to renew my JAA class 1 medical after the transplant and what to do with my life part two. Have any of you heard of any cases where the AME renewed a class 1 medical after a transplant?

Firstly, I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis - not an easy thing to have to live with, I'm sure.

Assuming that you already hold a Class 1 medical, the first thing I would be inclined to do is to ensure that you can get your Class 1 medical renewed before your transplant.

Secondly, the people to ask would undoubtedly be the AMS of the JAA state that issued you the medical.

It may be that there is a blanket denial of Class 1 medicals to transplant recipients; on the other hand it may be done on a case by case basis and that may itself be based on medical tests run at the time.
