Hello all. I have an initial interview with CX coming up. I could not find this info anywhere else so I put it to you guys. If I am sucessful in the interview and am awarded a position in HK will my girlfriend be able to work?? No we are not married but we have been living together for over a year. She has a University degree and is currently working in human resources.

I believe that, in both the 1st and 2nd interview it is extremely important to show the interviewers that you guys are in a serious and committed relationship.
In my first interview they asked what my gf would do in HK. I told them that she is a teacher and that we have aready been looking for jobs via the internet etc etc. This showed that she was also serious about moving to HK.
I haven't moved to HK yet, I'm sitting on a yes letter,so what I say is to the best of my knowledge.
In my second interview I found out that there are many draw backs about not being married such as relocation allowance, medical insurance, staff travel initially, and resident visas.
Cathay will sponsor you and your wife. If you are not married your gf will have to come into the country on a holiday visa which lasts 3 months. If your gf has the right qualifications and experience there is nothing stopping her to apply to any organisation in HK, which may want to sponsor her into the country. If she does not have a resident, or work visa she can not work in HK.
Hope this helps, and as I said this is how I view the situation on gf.
I think the points are starting to stack against me, it might be time to get married:{

I do not work for CX nor have I been to Hong Kong, but I was researching the possibility of my wife working there. There are tons of American law firms with offices in HK. There are employment ads all over the internet for Americans in the legal profession to come to work there. It looked like my wife would have no problem finding a sponsored job in her own right over there. I doubt it's just the legal field. You should look around at other types of businesses and find out which large American companies have offices over there. Google "American jobs in Hong Kong." It may not be an easy search, but I bet with a proper education there is someone out there who would sponsor her.
Take all that with a grain of salt, because again, I do not work there and have never stepped foot on HK soil.

the best girlfriends to be had in hong kong are in Fenwicks..................personally I would recmmend a fillipino as they are cheap and good for F@#ing as long as you kick them out before they try talking the next morning !!!

Um, forgive the stupid question, but does it work against an applicant if they are not in a relationship when they go to HK? Something about personal stability issues?

POTATO, I don't think it matters too much, as long as you show how keen and dedicatd you are to the cause. i know of a single guy who has been accepted, but then I only know of 1 single guy who has applied. So the odds are good at getting in as a single man :D
No issues if single. Great opportunities.
The issue if you ARE married is...
'happy wife, happy life'
...and in such the personal side of the interview will focus on whether your wife will be happy in HK.
Regarding bringing your wife to HK during round two- it is an opportunity to show that she supports your application and that you both understand the pro's & con's of living in HK first hand.
