What's going down there now??

Notice another IFALPA notice requesting a recruitment ban after KALPA approached them..

http://www.ifalpa.org/jobs/recruitmentban/06IND076%20Request%20for%20Mutual%20Assistance%20-%20Kenya.pdf

I know one or two guys who were going via an agency and now it went pear shaped? This happened before from what I recall......a peculiar situation.

It's exactly as the letter says. It's calmed down a bit now but can flare up again at any time.

Does that mean that the rumours of cancelled flights / stalled expansion etc due crew shortage are untrue ?
Surely a few SHORT-CONTRACT trainers would speed things up to the benefit of the airline. Management would be happy and the crew could get on with the expansion / progression they all crave ? 2 years would make a huge difference.
Asking for an IFALPA ban ( was it granted by the way ? )seems a bit extreme or are there other issues not being talked about ? Have pilots been unfairly sacked ? Sounds like things are going pear-shaped when bans are the only way out ?
A bit of creative negotiation and cooperation should do the trick ?

KALPA have always been strongly resistant to foreigners, though not to Kenyans working in the Gulf etc where they in turn are foreigners. This is a throughly negative move and not in the interests of either KQ or its pilots whose future is bright provided the company keeps growing profitably. Contractors are a threat to nobody and KQ should not be inhibited from taking on short term non citizens to fill expansion, training or other gaps. KQ should not be expected to take on every aspirant from Wilson Airport on a long term contract when these needs are only short term and some of these aspirants may not fit KQ's needs anyway.

Thanks Skylion for your sensible and measured response , was beginning to think I was marooned............
I am hoping to have a response from someone who may be able to give a balanced explanation of KALPA's current actions ie the real inside story and not some of the rather extreme , but currently believable , 'rumours'.
It all seems a bit self-destructive at the moment. I hope I am wrong.
