I know this has been asked several times, but the answers I've found ranged from 18 months to +4 years - so, what is the current expected time for a new joiner? Given the CX's need for pilots, I reckon the time would be quite short? I now fly as a captain (maybe on a turboprop, but still) and and enjoy every minute of it. Becoming the last in the chain of command isn't exactly appealing to me, not to mention the lack of hands-on time, t/o and landings. But I really want to fly for CX and am willing to accept it, as long as it's not for an indefinite period...

Just flew with an SO a few weeks ago who was just about to start his JFO course. 3 years and 1 month from date of joining.

404,

Do you recommend calling in sick for an S/O sim check before a course? All it takes is 1 low score on any maneuver to have the whole thing called off. Seen a few done it. (calling in sick in fear)

This type of thing happened to me three weeks before my upgrade then SARS happened and it didn’t really matter. Personally I wouldn’t call in sick. It’s far too obvious on your sickness record which the company keeps a close eye on.

All depends... some S/O's at CX are currently getting interviewed for upgrade at 2 years 6 months. IMHO: <4 years.
