Does anyone else think it slightly non-sensical that from today until Friday afternoon, the following aids are all offline due to navaid replacement program?

- Mallacoota - the NDB and VOR are both off for 3 days
- Merimbula - NDB off until Friday
- Moruya - NDB off until Friday

Thanks removing almost all of the options fellas!

These weren't scheduled maintainence or or part of the navaid replacement program - they were all "failures", and awaiting parts/repair.

Now that the TW VOR is off line I wish I had a second ADF :hmm:

Probably had something to do with the number of lightning strikes on wednesday night in that area.

Canberra lights were also out of action for some time on the same night and from what I hear the back up failed also...:ooh:

Man on the ground - thanks for the info - as of last night MRY and MER were back on line but both of MCO still off air.

If they were actual failures (lighting caused or otherwise) why does it take up to 10 days to fix? Are Airservices lacking in manpower, spares or willpower to repair navaids in a timely fashion?

Howard Hughes, the NDBs had been out of use for much longer than a few days.

Pick up the phone, call the relevant centre (numbers in ERSA) and either ask them or ask for a number for the technical staff.

UTR, not lacking in willpower, its just the 'realities' of a 'commercialised' service provider. There usually isn't a 'tech on site' or a spares store at each aid, so its a trip from the nearest tech base (not sure in this case, maybe SY). If they don't bring the right gear the 1st time, then its another trip! I'm not saying this the way it should be done, but that's the way it is these days.

Having three neighbouring aids go out at the same time though is unsual, and should have elevated them up the batting order.
