Any flight schools in Singapore?

Hi does anyone have any knowledge of any good reputable flying school that will train you from 0-fatpl at a reasonable price in Singapore, at a JAA path, thanks.

Not JAA in Singapore.
Singapore Airlines has schools in Perth Western Australia and Maroochydore Queensland.
Even the Singapore Airforce Train in Australia.

Only JAA in that area is the Western Australian Aviation College does JAA Modular and Integrated Training.

There are several components in your question.

Good reputable flying school in Singapore - Yes, the Singapore Flying College.

At a resonable price - what is your definition of reasonable? At the moment there is more than 1 ab-initio private student and they are all in the same course.

At a JAA path - No, for now. The switch over process has begun but it will be some time before a JAA compliant license is issued. At the moment it is still UK CAA based.

Zero to fATPL - Yes.

Why do you want to learn to fly in Singapore? If you are planning to fly with an airline incorporated in Singapore, learning to fly in Singapore is the least troublesome (from a bureaucratic point of view) and the most likely to produce a direct, obstacle-free path from zero to fATPL.

If you are not planning to fly for a Singapore-based airline then there is no need to bother to come here.

To be exact, there are 3 private cadets in SFC at the moment, in three different courses (119, 120 & 122). There was another one but somehow he didn't make it for the Tech phase, hence he's on "academic leave" up till today. As far as I know, all the 3 private cadets had been granted interview with SIA recently, but results has not out yet...

Anyway, to answer the initial question: There's only one flying school that suits your criteria in Singapore, which is SFC. Total cost for private candidates is in the region of S$150-160K, payable in several installments (around 3 I think...), that amount includes food and lodging.

You can also look "up north" to Malaysia, where there are several flying schools such as Malaysian Flying Academy (MFA) in Malacca, HMAerospace in Langkawi and another one in Kota Bharu (forgot the name..)

I'm pretty sure all the Singapore Avitaion Exams are also based on the JAA Syllabus. In either case it won't be too hard to convert a Singapore license to the JAA equivelant.

If in Malaysia try MFA (Malaysian Flying Acadamy) based in Malacca, however I'm not too sure if they run the JAA syllabus.

The Singapore Flying Club does not train anyone to fATPL level.

They don't even train to CPL level, only to PPL, and not very regularly either.

And it is not even a "school", just a club that is not very active at all.

At least you are correct on one aspect of your reply in that the Singapore Flying Club is at the Seletar Airport.

The "Singapore Avitaion Exams" (sic) are not yet based on the JAA syllabus.

Hi Chaps, interesting....visited the SFC website and emailed them sometime back...think twice...I wonder if anyone is indeed hired for technical support and email correspondence. sigh...:ouch:

Anyhow, is it compulsory to take up the whole package? ie full boarding? I was thinking if one enrolls only for the training ie lectures and flights, will the fees be correspondingly reduced? I'm really pretty keen in the course but am a little tight in the purse as well. :\

Also, I've attended the SIA Cadet Pilot Interview in mid 2005 but was not accepted after attending the final interview. Was also told there won't be a 2nd chance for final interview rejects. I was just toying with the idea if indeed enrolling for this course will bring my dreams alive again....hmmm...:D

It seems that the only Singapore Based Airline anyone could really fly for with a fATPL would have to Singapore Airlines yah? And that as a cadet pilot probably? Hopefully the airline will then send one to Maroochydore for Learjet training....Budget Airlines only hire direct entry FOs?

Oh btw, does SIA accept girls? I heard the Passenger and Cargo fleet doesn't, only chance gotta be SilkAir. My girlfriend seems pretty interested in applying for the cadet pilot programme but she's below 1.6m, round 1.58m...wonder if the height criteria applies for ladies?

No schools in Malaysia can do JAA training, and also there are no good schools in Malaysia.

I assume you are talking about Asia Pacific flight training in Kota Bharu. First of all they don't do JAA training. Second, it is not a good school compared to western standards. It is still a very new school, and with the typical Malaysian management it will take them many more years before they can provide reputable training. FORGET about Malaysia if you want good flight training.

I couldnt agree with you more zakka. The school is only the most 1 1/2 years old but it has starting to be shaky and cant seems to be able to manage their school well by the growing numbers of cadets. Covered with sweet words and giving out emtpy promisses is their way to attact more and more idiot and jokers to join their school. Run by some typical malaysian style of management you will probably can imagine how does the school looks like. Altho it might look as if their still 1 of the best school in malaysia for now but i wouldn encourage any1 to join this school or even any school in malaysia unless you are desperate to get an airline job in malaysia. Do you want to risk ur life in some doggy aircraft? engine, alternator, radio, u name it failures all the time. Why wanna gamble all this with your money and dream? Y dont you get the money and go somewhere else to get a proper flying lessons. Also, if you would like to taste the worst food in malaysia, then you must visit APFT!
