When it comes to pilot interpretation of the FTL's in the FOM and the Company's (i.e management), what the blazing F**K are 'soft rules'? I hear this so many times spouted (and often shouted) from the likes of BM & TCAS. How can they have a different interpretation from what the FOM says?

I know of many disagreements between pilots and the above, but nothing is EVER published in the pilots monthly letter, rumour buster, FCI's or FOM to clear these anomolies up!

When are we ever going to have FTL's that are easy to understand, to interpret and to implement? I've asked this many times from management, but I don't even get a 'PC' answer. Can anyone out there enlighten me on the likelihood of us ever getting FTL's that are clear and precise and not open to soft rules that are only designed to confuse and put unsafe pressure on pilots?

Haven't you realised that our FTL's are targets not limits?!!

Hi Keith,
It's quite straightforward really.
A 'soft' rule is any rule management breaks in order to crew the a/c.
A 'hard' rule is any rule that YOU break.

I agree with you 100%. :ok:
Emirates FTLs demonsrate lack of intelligibility, clarity and logic. In fact, that sums up the whole FOM I think.
