Oman will withdrow from GulfAir by the end of this year
It's overdue. It'll will be probably the best way for both countries and airlines in particular.

well, its whats happening here in the gulf now, every country is fighting for its own airline....

what i think is....is Oman Air gonna be successful as its neighbours. or its going to do a mistake coz they are many airlines which are big surrounding it????

I wish they would hurry up! Give GF the break they need to restructure properly and become efficient and genuinely a commercial operation with a chance of success. Perhaps Andre Dose can take this onboard fully? Once he get rid of most of the current VP's that is! That is GF's biggest problem - too many of the wrong people at that level.

Icarus, my son, I couldn't resist to reply to your message :-)
Don't burn your wings now, you hear?
Basically I agree with you. One hub is enough.

Ah, I believe Daedalus is the correct spelling of my Father's name.
And contrary to popular belief (or even Greek mythology) the wax did not melt nor my wings burn. It was flying too high that made the wax brittle from cold that led to a total failure of their integrity.
A little like most VP's in Gulf Air!

(OmanAir are planning to order 30 A330)

isnt that to much aircraft.. what i know, or what i heard is that Oman Air are planning 2 buy wide body aircrafts but how many of them, i dont know.. and abt the airport expanding is nothing abt Oman Air.. as the airport is expanded due to the government see it need a bigger airport..

also there is a meeting 4 the Oman Air shareholders as the Government have gave Oman Air money around $50million. so the meeting to inform them that and the government wants 2 increase it share to 80%.

OmanAir will never be anything but a bad taxi service which people have to use when they cant get seats on proper airlines what do you expect when you have camels with single digit IQ,s fleecing the pilots hard earned salaries into their own pockets.Theres no expansion believe me. They cant think beyond today let alone plan for tomorrow.:ugh:

Govt stake to go up to 80pc
Oman Aviation to conduct EGM to raise capital
By Our Business Reporter
MUSCAT — Oman Aviation Services, which operates national carrier Oman Air, is planning to raise its paid up capital to RO 50 million from RO 13.28 million by privately placing shares in favour of the government. After the private placement, the government’s stake in the airline will go up to 80 per cent from 34 per cent now. The company, which will place 36.72 million shares in favour of the government at a price of RO 1.546, is conducting an extraordinary general meeting on February 28 at 5 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to seek approval from shareholders for enhancing capital.
“The EGM shall discuss, among other agenda items, the proposal for increasing the company’s share capital from RO 13,282,500 to RO 50,000,000 by private placement of the increased shares to the government, and amendment of the Articles of Association accordingly. The government shall disburse the full amount in cash and thus, be possessing more than 80 per cent stake. The issue price of the company share shall be RO 1.546 and the additionally placed shares shall be 36,717,500,” explained Ziad Karim al Haremi, CEO of OAS.
“The company is planning to operate long-haul routes which necessitate the purchase of wide-bodied aircraft, together with connected logistic support, to facilitate Oman Air to perform efficiently, taking into consideration that the average price of such aircraft amounts to $90 million, he said. “With the government policy towards endorsing tourism, it has appreciatively expressed eagerness to fully support the company so as to implement its future operational plans. Consequently, the board of directors was convinced that the government is the most apposite partner to augment the company’s share capital,” he added.
Al Haremi also said that the move would positively reflected in the company’s ability to grow, expand, and meet up the mounting competition from the regional carriers. Several financial institutions, including local and international banks, have suggested for raising the company’s capital to fund aircraft acquisition by way of outright purchase or on long lease.
“By raising the capital, we will continue to be in a firm position to achieve our anticipated goals and objectives — that is presenting Oman Air as an international carrier, but the restraint of capital has been always a real challenge obstructing our capacity to grow and expand through a well planned commercial strategy,” he added. “That the increase of the capital to RO 50 million by issue of new shares came after conducting lengthy and comprehensive studies based on sterilised economic perspectives, thus reflecting our actual cost of operations, which records RO 100 million,” noted Al Haremi.
“Our future strategies focus on precautious economically planned growth, which shall contribute positively towards the support of the national economy in general, and the promotion of tourism in particular. The company shall focus on plans to achieve more profits to the shareholders and increase the number of professions to Omani youth.
By the government possessing the additional shares, the company shall be in a position to boost up its existing fleet. Moreover, the wide-bodied aircraft shall facilitate the capacity increase on our present routes whenever required. In general, our initial strategic plan requires the establishment of an extended route network,” he added.

Good luck finding crew, not on the present conditions. HR will never learn. 6 resignations so far and its only mid Feb, several more to come, WY has great potential but with current attitude of management ( HR & Bean counters in particular ) it will only be what it is now, a stepping stone on to bigger and better.
What a shame :{
BP :ok:
Mind you, with government pouring in this amount of money, I hope they protect their investment and do some spring cleaning and get rid of of the clowns up top. :}

This makes sense if the government is realy after tourism business they cant start earning from that sector if they don't have proper airport and a proper airliner and in my opinion those two are linked together if one of them wants to succeed ,seeb int is under development so things are coming but seems to be a bit slow . i think the withdrawal from GF is coming later when WY is settled at least with their future plans the government wants to make sure that WY is climbing and holding the correct heading;) .

How about this ....

Omanair is to lease shortly a B777 - came from a someone who monitors engineering spares across the globe.
Plan is for autumn with flying on India and then later London.

Also rumours in the Pink Palace that with all the problems GF is having with their B767, the timing could be right to tell Oman where to go :) .
This is before they order new planes and give Oman their own engineering base.

We wish Oman all the success. The fact is that the Bahrain government asked Oman to sell its share to the Kingdom,so Bahrain takes over the airline.
Bahrain big mistake was in 1974 when invited UAE,OMAN and QATAR to have share in the airline.
However Bahrain is ready to have an airline with 50 aircraft, once it own it.Bahrain has the finance, the manpower, the facilities, others will need ages to have their national managing their airlines.
Look at QR,EK,EY how many of their nationals working in the airlines?500 in each out of 5000 7000 employee not even 10%,,,

Icarus,
Couldn't agree with you more.
1. Best thing if Oman pulled out of GF - cut down the politics somewhat!!!!!
2. VPO should be made to fall on his sword - has destroyed the Ops Dept over the last 5 years. (Should have been sacked after the 320 accident in 2000 when he was Chief Pilot)
