Anyone in the know, with how many pilots Qantas would be looking at recruiting over the next 5 years when the A380's start coming. Please, I know people love to bash, but lets keep it civil.

Recruitment into Qantas; zero
Recruitment into everything BUT Qantas (pornstar, asianpornstar, Natjet, Jitkinnikt, Eastern....at al); lots.

Vale Qantas (the one you could have pride in.):(

I have some friends looking for employ in pretty much all of the above but are having trouble getting a call for testing.

My questions are these.

* Is mainline testing anyone?

*How many people a week or month are J* or Link presently testing?

20 flight crew (approx) times the number of A-380 airframes they are getting will give you a rough figure!:ok:

As a casual observer though, I still expect the A-380's will go to Jetstar!:hmm:

My money is on the greedy pig companies holding out for the MPL. Then they won't need to employ "pilots" at all.
Could almost be quite a good earner for them! :ugh:

The new aircraft due '08 will present an enormous crewing challenge. Its possible that more than 100 pilots a year will be needed to cover fleet growth and retirements. Recruitment has been paused for some time because there has been no fleet growth in mainline and age extension has allowed many seniors to stay on. Lets not forget the surplus of crew on the 330. As for recruitment going to jetstar...:ugh: come on, you really think Jetstar is expanding fast enough to justlfy operating 20 A380s and 45 787s? Sounds like irrational anti-QF waffle..

(to all I am speaking generally, if there is something I say that is wrong I am more than happy to be corrected):
Maybe I should clarify my outlook - there is no longer any Qantas but there is the "Qantas GROUP", GD's made sure of that.

GD gets on the telly and states "its a tough environment out there, unfortunately QF can no longer absorb losses on the xxx-xxx route but I am HAPPY to announce we will continue to serve our loyal customers from within the QANTAS group and our travellers can look forward to benefits such as ..... etc"

Question: as I understand it there are the following "airlines" within the Qantas "group" who have some level/type of AOC's-
Qantas, Jetstar, Jitkinnekt, Australian Airlines, Jetstar Asia.
Major jet contractor - NatJet.
What/who have I forgotten??

Assuming creative accounting will always prove whatever GD needs to prove, further assuming that any start-up costs/assistance will be creatively "hidden", is there any operational reason why:
Jitkinnekt could not operate 767 or 787 aircraft on "behalf of the QANTAS group";
Jetstar Asia could not operate the A330/ A380 on "behalf of the QANTAS group";
NatJets could not operate 767's on "marginal routes" on "behalf of the QANTAS group" (at least domestically, maybe international) ???????

The combinations are endless but I trust you get my drift.

GD has set up a chessboard and much as I have no time for him as he pockets obscene remuneration by destroying individuals lives and any Spirit of Australia that might have existed he has set the board and he has options.

Should the good people of Australia ever question "what's happened to Qantas?" he will simply spend another $20 million, whatever it takes, to have the choir yodelling over the Swiss Alps "I still call Australia home"
(have they done that already?) or frolicking with the penguins in ANtartica whilst chattering the same through frozen teeth (pretty sure they haven't done THAT yet!) and all will be well!
Style over substance, image over reality.

Yes there will be recruitment in the Qantas GROUP.
Yes there are new aircraft/new types inbound to the Qantas GROUP.

The placement of the equipment will determine the avenues for recruitment - and the avenues will determine the T&C's.

Hence my lament of: Vale Qantas (the one you could have pride in.)

Galdian, interesting point. I do believe the doom and gloom is a little excessive.

As for the QF Group, its not one airline, does not have one AOC. The application of the above suggestion (outsourcing pilots) is an extemely difficult, and in most cases impossible task. I realise that its currently practice at Australian Airlines, keep in mind that they are operating AA aircraft (at least aircraft on the AA AOC) on behalf of QF. The chance of J* operating 787s on QFs behalf is entirely possible, I will concede this. As for the A380, I doubt, given the time frame and movement in mainline thus far, that the same will happen.

I may be optimistic, but I believe the future is a little brighter than many choose to believe. QF is still a formidable airline, and I think its disrespect to those who work for QF to suggest there is no longer place for pride.
