Mango using SAA branded aircraft!!!

Was meandering through the terminal building yesterday trying to find an open gate to get to our aircraft. On finding an access to the apron, we found to our amazement Mango passengers boarding an SAA branded 737-800. Curious to look further we wondered down the air bridge to take a closer look. Standing in the door way of the SAA aircraft was a Mango cabin attendant decked out in orange uniform and behind him was an SAA hostie dressed in normal airways hostie uniform. Pilots well they were from the SAA stable as shown by their white pilot shirts and not the dayglo orange ones, so........ Deskjockey since you are such a bright fella in the corridors of power could you explain this one. So much has been said about seperate entitities and all......but c'mon it certainly didn't look like it yesterday!!!

Mango does not have spare aircraft capacity to cover maintenance downtime. They charter aircraft from SAA at the same rate as any other company would pay SAA for the same charter. They do get priority on charters, being an SAA owned company. Before anyone makes claims of "let's see the charter agreement", remember that SAA and Mango are very aware of the competition commission and everything will be above board.

Mango has previously asked SAA if they could fly the SAA branded aircraft with their own flight deck crew on an AMI charter basis but SAA refused and only charters aircraft to Mango with SAA flight deck crew. Cabin attendants do belong to Mango, which I am sure must be a massive bonus for the SAA pilots!!

Ok....thought there might be an explanation! Hope you right though about all the charter agreements!
Yep must be nice for the cockpit crews to have a little "variety" in the cabin.
