Noticed a few posts regarding the IPA/IPF earlier this week. Just to answer your queries - Yes the IPA now has an associated union (named the IPF) and able to represent pilot groups within their companies.

The IPA has approx. 2000 members and gives you an alternative to BALPA. We don't believe in knocking them as you pays your money and takes your choice. We don't have their infrastructure or their cash but we are a heck of a lot cheaper. You have to start somewhere!

Somebody asked What do you get? Well, ask some of the wannabees. We have an excellent job finding section and publish our mag - Skypointer every other month with a full double page spread on a round up of all the UK airlines and their latest reported vacancies. A lot of young pilots join for that alone!

We have a free pilot legal protection scheme. Well, it's not really free but it comes out of the subs. so it appears to be free!! The IPA pays one big premium for all full members and everybody gets up to £10K's worth of cover. It's not meant to cover a massive disaster, but would certainly provide a fair bit towards your average employment tribunal. If you want more cover up to £500K, ALPL will arrange that for you at reasonable rates.

The IPA is now a fully paid up member of the UK Flight Safety Committee and can represent your interests as well as participating in information sharing. Why not ring Trevor Newton at the office on 01444-441149 and find out more about us. You'll get better info than some of the guesses I saw in print
