Hi there all. I am looking for someone in the know.. I am looking at purchasing a Floatable inflatable boat (FIB) which is basically a microlight that takes off and lands on water. Anyone know what the regulations are for this type of aircraft? Check out www.polarismotor.it for pictures and info. I was thinking of having it in Portugal but dont know whether they are allowed or not..

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Landings guys and thanks in advance..

Floatable inflatable boat
Shouldn't that be flyable inflatable boat? ;)

They look like they're far too much fun to be allowed in the UK

Don't think any have been permitted in the UK. Gerry Breen (http://www.angelfire.com/biz5/breen/) does a Microlight float rating which could be a start.

Why not contact gerry breen, he runs a microlight training school in the Algarve and has a float equipped Xair. He should be able to put you in the picture regarding regs over there.

(Just google the name)

So far as the UK is concerned I believe that floats are permissable on a microlight and a little extra MAUW is allowed for them. The usual mod requirements for permit will apply though. Good luck.
