How bad is the “Wet” in Port Moresby? Does
Lae have the same amount of rain as Moresby at
this time of year?

Moresby is in a bit of a rain shadow...the wet is usually only a bit damp. Lae has a real wet season where it can rain for weeks but all operations since the late 80s have been out of Nadzab which is 19nm inland in the Markham Valley...weather is VERY rarely an issue at NZB...unlike the good old days at Lae:E

The nearby mountains can be socked in but both airports are usually fine.

Sound of phone ringing in Nadzab tower.....

Gidday Pete, it's Bill here at Lae.
Yeah, pissin' down here mate, what's Nadzab like?
Umm, that bad.:uhoh:
Ah well.
Sure! I'll take a clearance over the top.
That's great Pete!
I'll give you a call airborne! :E

You don't know The Wet until you've done Tabubil time. 1,600 inches per year - rains an average 360 days per year!!!

When I arrived in POM in '73 there had been no rain for nine months. Great big cracks on the ground ...

Lae had 2 seasons per year when I lived there in the 80s. During the wet season it rained every night. During the really wet season it rained every afternoon and every night.

POM definitely drier than Lae. Chimbu is right about NZB

Aaahhh Tabubil.
Socked in for many a day and many a pair of boots rotted out twixt there and Kiunga, but the Star Mountains Hash House more than made up for it.
