Saudi Court Orders Lashing, Jail for 20 Foreigners for Drinking, Dancing at Mixed Party
Anyone know the real story, looks like 1 step foward and 2 steps back as always in the kingdom.

Just something to think about for those wanting flying jobs in the kingdom.

Sharbotly again, or Saudia City or Arabian Homes? Old timers remember the OK corral incident in Saudia City, when a guy nicked his wife's ear with a gun (blood all over) and many people were rounded up and deported (early '80's). Things don't change much in the Magic Kingdom.

Did you happen to read the nationalities of the people involved???

Nothing issued by any of the western consulates nor is there any news about this on the FA gripevine.

i sympathise with these guys.... As the punishment is too severe for the

act they commited.... however they should have known better as it is still

illegal what they have done in the magic kingdom....

As previously mentioned, this has happened before. The operative complaint of the Saudis is...'impudence'. A small gathering, quiet, with drinks, will be met with quiet (with rare exception). A loud, huge party of 400+ people, mixed, with booze, etc, is just....an insult to the culture, or impudence. These will always be met with severity, understandably...attendance at these, not expecting a firm response, is stupid. Sam.

Without knowing the exact details its difficult to pass judgement, but the major thing is that normally all ex pats wherever they go, quietly get on with their jobs and are grateful for the small allowances made to them, unlike immigrants we all keep our heads down and go quietly about our business, anyone in the magic kingdom knows that.Even in a big expat compound u can only have a quiet party, but without knowing the situation it's impossible for us to tell what happened in this instance, but the bottom line is that tolerance is not reciprocal. And its something we have to live with..
