Return to Cathay?

Curious...does anyone know of any pilots who left Cathay for whatever reason and then decided that they would like to come back?
If so, were any accepted back? What was the process they had to go through to get back into the company? What were the biggest hurdles they had to overcome?
Before the slagging begins, I left for valid reasons, nothing to do with the company and not to go to another airline. Unfortunately my options were very limited at the time. My situation has since improved greatly and would allow me to return should I be accepted back.
If anyone knows of anyone that has been through this, please let me know.

I know of a few guys who went to QF, couldn't stand the culture there so came back. They had to restart their seniority from new DoJ. If you try to rejoin within a short period of time(2years I think) they can take you back without all the interview hoopla. After that you have to do the whole interview process all over again.
If you didn't burn any bridges they will consider you. But obviously they will be focusing on why you left and how it is that you won't leave again.

I know a few guys who did leave and then came back, both after about 3-4 years .....for valid reasons.....one of them I know for sure he didn't have to go through the sim ........but he was asked during the interview about the precise reason......obviously he had a good one......he's senior to me now........

As a general question, how much leave is too much. Surely CX doesn't kick to the street every pilot with some life event that draws him away from the job for a period of time. Or am I being too naive? What provisions are in the CoS?

I agree with the above. As long as you did not take the family silver with you when you left, you will be considered for re-employment. I know of several who have returned.

DC5150, it is true indeed. CX would be highly unlikely to offer any kind of long term leave without pay to a pilot, and then take him back on seniority. It was done during SARS and also during the 1982 recession that I know of, but those were rare occasions that were for the good of the company.

You are not allowed "life events" in CX. You will be allowed a short term compassionate leave to bury family members, a month or so if it is a spouse, but the idea of a sabbatical for education or to provide long term care is unknown. So yes, they would "kick to the street."

Thanks for your replies guys. Sounds like there is some hope for me yet!

We'll see what happens, as i'm waiting for word back from the company.

Hopefully it won't take too long for a decision as I am on pins and needles waiting. :)
