Seen at Melbourne terminal at night, 2 Virgin Blue pilots both wearing dark sunnies over forehead (and its bloody nightime!!) and one wearing day-glo high vis jacket and back-packers bag plus water bottle slung over shoulder while strolling through the terminal. Very professional, guys - and in complete keeping with the cool Branson style.:ok:

A37575,
You must be one of those skygod dipsicks that are too up 'em selves to talk to or acknowledge other pilots. At least the Virgin boys will have a job in 5 years time.

Yeah he must be a skygod idiot - won't it all be great when we are all regarded as truck drivers/bus drivers (oh thats right we almost all are anyway) and we can all just wear our blue truckies singlet, fluro o.h.s. jacket and show our browned driving arms.

Seriously we are are own worst enemy at times.

Sunnies on the head at night......So?...You fly a sector that takes you from day to night, in flight you put you sunnies up and keep driving. To lazy or don't give a ship about the way you look on landing and leave them there till you get to you room and change clothes.

Water bottle....yes...aircon will do that to you after a while. Personally I bought a 1.5 ltr bag thingy so the water stays cold a tad longer and is easy to carry.

Care factor??

I guess in Oz given the standard(s) and content of the response to this thread we can see why the industry in the "great southern land" has collapsed totally and why management see you scrawny lot as nothing more than a group of bogan bus drivers.

How the industry has changed for the worse down there and now we see Ozzie pilots from abroad as a desperate group of wannabees prepared to don the jeans, sunnies over the head and back pack and trudge through the terminal on there fifth sector for the day for little remuneration.

Personally if i was in your unfortunate situation i would give a sh*t.

Hydrant,
I am not in the airline industry, I choose, yes choose GA for the work I do and the lifestyle that goes with it.
I don't walk through terminals at all, let alone dressed or indeed undressed!
My statement prior is a message to the person about nit picking, do you know the full facts of why these two drivers walked with sunnies and any other item through a terminal? I certainly don't! They may have reason to do so, then again they may be complete and utter tossers!
My statement says in a nut shell....WHO CARES, this is two individuals in one situation.
You one the other hand have just lobbed all Australian pilots' in one basket with your assumptions. I had a flight on VB some weeks ago, my first on that carrier. The FO who was to fly the return leg sat in the seat beside me, during our short discussion he was, polite, professional and very matter of fact about the industry, his job and his employer. He was not wearing sunnies on his head,(and yes it was night, bloody redeye flights), nor any other symbol of his job.
You may have gone to a part of the world where you are happy and by your attitude you feel better than us still here in Australia, fine, if that is your attitude to the people or the industry here, great! Just think though, you might be wrong.
(must admit though that you wear a uniform and be proud of it, don't reduce the position in others eyes by acting in a manner that degrades the uniform or your position.)
I choose not to work my arse off for little pay and accept the VB deal, thats my choice, others have chosen to do the opposite. Who's right? NFI
