All ready a thread here (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=262058) about the Kuwait Airways plane that was required to land at OMRK and Not OMDB

Gulf Snooze has the article here (http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/General/10100689.html)

How many guys know that with one runway in Dubai it is highly unlikely that ATC will let you come back to land. Does not take much imagination to work out that all bedlam would break lose with OMSJ filing up next door.

Look what happened with the B737 that took off a year or so ago from 12R clipped the barrier with his landing gear and was told to bugg off to the military airfield. Then there was the Russian plane a few years back that blocked the runway and I am sure there was a an incident last year where the single RWY in Dubai was closed due to a spillage .

If you have been in Dubai for a few years you may or may not be aware of these events .

Why the secret squirrel hoarding of this information?
ATC or Emirates could Inform and make pilots aware that ATC would prefer to have you not block the runway and shut the Airfield down for ???? hours.

Why not let guys know there is a Air force base within skipping distance of Dubai and it can be made available for emergencies?

With the commit to destination Fuel Policy it could help to improve your situational awarenesshttp://www.gulfnews.com/images/07/01/30/31_ae_kuwait_airways_4.jpg

Spoke to a UAE F-16 jockey during the last DXB Airshow and he was not allowed to tell me where he was based.....sooo not obvious :ugh: ! So how can you expect ATC to send you to Minhad ( ooops! ) a secret Military Airbase??

It's even closer to Silicon Oasis, should get you home in about 5 minutes from there. Start parking the Audi's at the gates...

Can ATC deny you to land if you declare an emergency, and you insist on using a specific airfield?

Of course it depends on the emergency, but I would feel more comfortable with an airport I know, rather than one I've never been to before. Possibly a secondary airfield where I suspect fire and rescue services to be of less quality than my regular destination.

I know I wouldn't be halal to land gear up in Dubai, but that is not really my problem.
