Would anyone have an indication of the cost of a second hand fan-powered Boeing 707 during the early 1970s? I'm thinking of JT4A powered models.

If you have any specific examples even better!

many thanks in advance

Actually, the JT-4A is a turboJET. The turboFANs used on the 707 were the Rolls-Royce Conway and the PW JT-3D.

The JT4A was not a fan engine, but a plain turbojet. It's application was the DC-8-30 and 707-320 types. Fan engines came on the DC-8-50 and 707-320B/C models.

There was a substantial difference in price between the two types by the early 1970s, despite them being only a couple of years apart in development. The JT4A was shipped 1959-62, and the JT3D fan engined models from 1963 onwards. By the early 1970s the older engined models were down to residual/scrap value, once the 747 came along and pushed through the fleets, whereas the fan-engined models maintained their value, and indeed were still in production. The 1973 oil crisis did for the more thirsty JT4A once and for all.

Others will have the cash numbers.
