At our recent company air safety meeting the subject of self prescribing came up. Picture the scene: eight pilots four engineers and two ops sitting around a table, all suffering from a form of man flu. We compared remedies and the youngest (and brightest: git) asked how many of them you could take and fly.

We've asked the CAA and four AMEs, but no-one can answer our question. Does anyone know of a list of proprietary medicines approved by the CAA?

We understand about the not operating machinery, or non-drowsy instructions, we would just like some clarification.

Sorry, can't answer your specific quiestion, but I can tell you that most of the stuff they put in OTC cough and cold medicines is not medically proven.

It's the paracetamol/ibuprofen component of the compound which actually does any good, (read the label first) the rest of the sh*te they mix in is more likely to give you side effects, without any clinical benefit to your symptoms.

If it was any good, I'd take it meself.
