As far as I can see Perugia is the closest airport to Siena, Perugia is served by Ryanair from Stansted only. After Perugia, Pisa seems to be the closest, also served by Ryanair but from a variety of UK airports.

Perugia would be my choice, but if you don't leave near STN than your best going to Pisa. Take your pick! :ok:

Does anyone have any hotel/villa recommendations for Siena

Hi there...

Spot on for the airports next to Siena, nothing to add. Going to Florence-Peretola is not gonna be cheaper nor more comfortable.

I have a friend that owns an agriturismo (Italian for tipical B&B-farmhouse) in Bevagna, nearer Perugia than Siena but astonishing place nevertheless. You'll need to rent a car since trasportation is a joke in Italy. Moreover my friend is a Brit lady...! PM if you think it can suit you and I'll drop her number so you can arrange.

Have fun

Felix. If you can, go when the Palio is on. It happens twice during the summer (can't remember the dates) and the atmosphere in Siena is amazing. Florence is quite a small airport and it's easy to pick up a hire car there. You could then visit Florence as well. That said, Perugia is beautiful and I can recommend the Brufani Palace Hotel. :ok:

The knowledge and the forums would be a much less attractive and hospitable place without our moderators.

Siena does have it's own airport, no airlines go there but if you can afford to go by biz jet, you can go straight there.

You'll need to rent a car since transportation is a joke in Italy.
I think I know what you mean, but on a long weekend in Bologna last year Mrs PV and I took a day trip to Ravenna by train (both cities highly recommended BTW). Over 100 miles round trip, €10 each and trains comfortable and on time. If that's joke transportation, we need more of it in the UK!
