Dear all, this is my first post even on this forum. I got this forum when I was trying to order the book "Preparing for your Cathay Pacific interview : the pilots guide / Captains X, Y & Z." on the internet. From some of the previous posts, somebody said that this just a waste of money, and suggested that those who intend to buy the book should read more post instead...

HAHA... anyway.

I got a question. I am going to graduate in six months, I considering a career in the aviation industry. Personally I really hope for a career as a pilot. I love the sky as much as any of you did. However, I got a shortsight, not a very serious one, but I wonder if there is any standard requirements for the applicants in the cadet pilot program for CX?

Can anybody help me with this questioN? THX

The book by Capt. XYZ is not very useful for CPP hopefuls. I got the older 9th edition before I discovered this forum and I have to say I could of put the cash to better use. I read the new 11th (or is it 10th) edition and it's a direct copy of the old CXCP post here. The standard requirements for application are posted on CX's main website, along with the online application form. As for the eyesight requirement, get it checked out by an approved aviation doctor. You should be able to get a list from the HK Aviation Authority. Don't bother asking if you can pass the Class/CAT 1 medical exam here. We are not doctors and medical condition varies between individuals. If you can't get a HK Class/CAT 1 medical certificate and the underlying medical problem can't be resolve, you can basically forget about CXCP or any sort of commercial flying but private flying could still be possible.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a commercial pilot and I haven't applied to CXCP. However, I'm a student pilot and holds a current Canadian Class 1 medical certificate.

I used these books you mentioned (Capt XYZ etc) as a study tool. The book lists questions and topics covered in the interview, and the intention (i guess) is to use the book to get an idea of what areas you need to study. The result is that you tend to study a lot more than you need, but you will know more in the end.

Currently most of the q's asked in the interview are posted on PPrune. This is fine as long as the people posting them have the correct answer (most do). I found that often there were lots of confusing opinions on various subjects, and in the end I found it easier to go onto the internet or use text books to find the answers myself.

Remeber if the subject is a purely technical one, try the "Tech Log" forum as there are thousands of guys there who have lots of experience (and of course lots of opinions).

What Koyo said about the revisions of Capt XYZ are correct. There seems to be almost no difference between them. I used the 6th edition, and then looked at the 9th and couldn't find anything that different.

If can find the Capt ABC book, it'll be much more useful, but it's no longer in print and very hard to find.
Ace The Technical Pilot Interview by Bristow is a good reference but does have a few mistakes in it, so be careful.
Handling The Big Jets by Davies is obviously the base of all the CX interview but a little dated for modern day jets.
Do a search for the interview gouge on this site and Jetthrust.com, it has a ton of useful info.

If your eyesight can be corrected to 6/6, it will not prevent you from getting a Class 1 medical in Hong Kong.
