View Full Version : Vulcan crash

In the late 60s/early 70s I was attending an airshow at, I think RAF Henlow. During the afternoon a Vulcan did a low pass and as it climbed out I noticed a 'changing shadow' on the underside of the port wing which I'm sure was a loose, flapping panel. Although I was a qualified army pilot - unfortunately in civies - the control tower staff didn't take me seriously and refuse to contact the Vulcan.
My memory may be playing tricks but to this day I'm sure a Vulcan crash was reported that evening. Was I wrong and if not could I have done more? Can anyone help?

It might have been the one that crashed at Syerston when one wing failed.

That was in the late-fifties. My father and elder brother witnessed it, the latter having the occasional recurring nightmare for a subsequent few years.

I don't think so as I didn't qualify until '61. I must admit that details are rather sketchy now (poor old fart!) but it's been on my conscience...
