Flight School Advice Aerospace Aviation

Can anyone give me any advice on Aerospace Aviation, thinking of joining their ATPL course soon but wanted some first hand knowledge if possible? Does anyone know of any other additional costs I'll come up against on top of the intial course cost?

This is my view only,
First impression I was impressed by the "professionalism" in the way of uniforms and new office etc etc. However that was short lived. I never spent a cent there, but my couple days there showed that nothing ran on time or even close to on time, there was a complete lack of management, complete lack of customer care. Some of the instructors there gave a damn and seemed concerned about this but nothing was ever really done about it.

Go there and hang around for a couple days, but don't fork out any money. You will leave soon enough

Well i just punched in 'training bankstown' and a whole bunch of threads came up including a thread specifically about aerospace aviation.

Ok so Aerospace doesnt seem to be the way to go! Does anyone have any advice on other schools, I have been to Basair, and I wasnt too sure about them, I have heard of others but dont know much about them.

Please any advice?

Have a look at the rural operations if you can, Johnson at PMQ ( Jamie Johnson ), Air Crew Check and Training ( Gordon Smith ) at Armindale, Bill Hazelton at Orange Aviation.

In addition most of these know lots of chief pilots / ops managers at companies you may in the future seek employment with.

The big flying schools in BK are very frequently not going to really give you value for money, you will learn a lot more from an experienced instructor working a family business than a 300 hour 18 year old BMW driving wonder at BK.

Thanks for the advice lefthand, unfortunately Im stuck to Sydney, need to work as well as study so regional is out of the question

Is Gordon Smith STILL around? Bit of a rouge but he will certainly teach you the survival tricks of the trade.
Most of his ex students are in heavy jets these days, so he could he a good reference if you do well at his school.

Have you had a look at Aviation Theory Centre in Maroochydore, QLD? They specialise in ATPL theory. It's run by Nathen Higgins. The pass rate is high and can be completed within six weeks. The tough part is time and money if you are already employed. I don't know how much it costs now but back then (2001) it was around 2K. You also meet pilots from all over OZ, great for establishing contacts.

I also thoroughly endorse this, as in my opinion he's the best at it by a mile. In 6 weeks he breezed me through flight planning nav performance and systems with > 90 in all of them.

The lifetsyle up there is fantastic too, go in the Summer and every day you can head to the beach for a swim, walk to the shops etc, top stuff. :)
