40 deg heat is causing havoc all over greater Melbourne this evening, reprtedly 1000+ sets of traffic lights all over the city. Many many suburbs are without power, CBD and all major arterial roads are a disaster and airlines predicting long delays as pax cant get to Tulla in any reasonable time. Also heard that some navaids may be offline due to bushfire activity.
News services are advising that people use the absolute minimum electricity as the power grid is struggling with the demand. Also advising that if you dont have to travel to, or within Melbourne, stay at home.

Puplic transportin chaos, trams and trains ground to a halt with the power outages.

Cause is a bushfire up at Benalla thats cut a power line from NSW that feeds the Victorian power grid in times of high demand.

Not the heat, bushfires causing loss of power connection with the NSW grid.

Looks like a major load shedding exercises to keep supply above demand.
