Hey guys,

I am looking for information regarding "Night ban versus fourth runway - The capacity problem of EDDF" for a study paper.

I looked at the web pages of fraport and Frankfurt Airport. Currently I am looking for answers regarding these questions;

- EDDF gets the 4th rwy only, if EDDF accepts a night ban between 2300 and 0500.

- Where is currently the capacity limit

- what happens, if EDDF won´t get the 4th rwy

- how will cargo and integrater react, if the nightban is comming up

- How will EDDF manage the slot problem, if the build the terminal 3 without the 4th runway?

I have not found any answers to these questions in books or magazines etc. It would be a great help for me, if anybody is supporting me, a little bit.

Thanks,

RedEagle

The new runway opened this afternoon when Chancellor Merkel's plane touched down and then to commercial traffic when the Lufthansa A321 Hamburg - Frankfurt landed.

The live feed I was watching was naturally in German and as I don't speak the language I could only glean a few facts. 90 million kept flashing up on the screen so I assume that this is the new passenger capacity, which if so is fairly impressive.

It is now well in use although on flightradar24 it looks a little odd as the airport map has not caught up and it looks like several aircraft have landed across the road on the grass

The main point of the post other than to praise the German presentation (business-like rather than fanfare) is to get people's thoughts on how if at all, does this affect LHR?

We have already heard the announcements of ABZ-FRA (Cityline 190 I think) and EMA - FRA (BMIR 145) which without the new runway would have been difficult to start to say the least and there is possibly still more to come.

Sadly the UK idea of open for business is akin to a company going ex directory and sealing up its letter box!!! at least as far as aviation is concerned.

It will be interesting to see what if anything comes from the Governments Autumn statement

- 4th runway (northwest) is just for landings

- movements will go up step by step to reach the maximum (700,000 movements; 50% more than today) not in the near future
- a new pier (called A-Plus) will open 2012, LH will use it
- Terminal 3 (located in the south east of the area) is planned (capacity will grow to 90 million)

- in contrast of the new runway no flights allowed between 11 pm until 5 in the morning starting winter timetable
- LH Cargo moved its flights from FRA to CGN (FRA-CGN-xxx) to avoid the curfew

There are already landings on the new runway. It's just about to challenge the curfew and additional terminal capacity in the future.

In the first phase of FRA’s capacity expansion, the number of planned flights will grow from an average of 83 to up to 90 takeoffs and landings per hour. The total number of departures (passenger, cargo, and other) will increase by 3.7 percent year-on-year to 4,535 per week this winter season, while total seat capacity via FRA will jump by 7.1 percent to 715,000 seats per week.
