Hello All.

I was wondering if someone in the know can clear up this tax increase for me?

I've got a few flights booked from last year, for travel after Feb 1st when this tax comes in and I'm now getting emails demanding more money. Now, I've heard varying rumours that the government may actually not be collecting the tax on any flights booked before 11th Dec, regardless of date of travel, in which case, the airlines concerned are clearly going to be pocketing the money themselves, something i'm loathe to let them do!!:ugh:

If I've booked flights before 11th Dec, is this tax applicable and do I have to pay it?

Many thanks

Which airline is it?
Any tickets booked for flights on or after Feb 1st are liable for this extra tax.
As far as I know BA is the only airline who is paying this tax rather than asking the customer for it (thats for tickets paid for before Feb 1st).

From what I've read unless your flying BA you have to fork out the extra, even if you booked in advance.
Basically it seems you have to pay up or you ain't flying - great!

BA doesn't seem to be making as much as they should of a very good PR opportunity.

Could someone say precisely how BMI Baby has decided to collect the extra amount please? Thanks in advance.

BA are the only airline taking the hit for those who booked before the date (maybe the learnt after the attempts of downgrading luggage allowances of those who had already paid). Unfortunately the current strike threats somewhat overwhelm the good publicity they could have got - doesnt matter much saving a bit of tax if you cant get on the plane.

Apparently the tax is illegal anyway as it hasnt been voted on by Parliament yet.

Anyone had problems trying to pay it through the EasyJet website? If I click on the Pay APD yellow box on the top left corner of their homepage, it just takes me to existing bookings, with no option to pay it shown anywhere. Too tight-fisted to shell out 65p a minute to phone them - they're permanently engaged anyway....

Just read about this tax in the Khaleej Times out here in Abu Dhabi. Flying into the UK on 26th Jan AUH - MAN and returning on the 16th Feb.

Am I right in presuming that this latest Brownian venture (one of the many reasons I now reside out here) is only for flights originating in the UK?

Can someone please tell me what the revenue collected as APD goes towards, in easy to understand language, I have to pass it onto someone else?

You need to log on to "my easyjet" and add the charge to the bookings that are shown in the list.

Customer services is 10p per minute. You should get through straight away as they are now operating a new call centre. 0871 244 2366

You will have to pay the tax on your return journey (unless the airline is picking up the additional tax bill).

Goes into a big pot along with almost every other tax in the UK. Do not be fooled into thinking this "environmental tax" is ringfenced into anything for that may benefit the environment.

So, if it does not become Law, can the airlines be charged with the criminal offence of theft or fraud for taking these extra charges ?

Just in case anyone else is also interested, I see that BMI Baby's website yesterday gave the answer to the question I posted here on 17th January. They say that they will be debiting the amount[s] due automatically.
