From ABC Newcastle:

Friday, 12 January 2007. 09:03 (AEDT)
The Newcastle-based airline Aeropelican says it is looking to enter the Tamworth market.

From next month, the airline will operate twice daily flights between Inverell and Sydney on weekdays and will pass through Newcastle on weekends.

Aeropelican general manager Paul Graham says once that service is consolidated, flights between Newcastle and Tamworth will be considered.

"Over the past six months or so we have looked at the possibility of Newcastle to Tamworth which would be quite well received by the local community here and in Tamworth," Mr Graham said.

"We will just be consolidating with the new Inverell service just to start with and hopefully when we get the new aircraft all up and running and bedded in, then we will hopefully look at Tamworth as the next option."

Good luck until the VB E-Jets arrive !

DJ747,

Are VB looking at running a competing service from Newcastle to Tamworth??

Yep, and if the rumours are true the E-Jets will be used to cherry pick the most profitable Eastern, Sunstate and Rex routes.

That'll be great for regional Aust. VB coming in and "cherry picking" all the profitable routes that subsidise the less profitable routes. Rex, Easterns etc will pull out of the less profitable routes with no one to fill the gaps.

Instead of 250 regional communities having an air service it'll be down to 20.

Good work! not!

DJ, do you really think an Embraear is going to be succesful on Newcastle to Tamworth? Think about it, if the route was that good it would be flooded with incumbents already...:hmm:

Looks like these guys are looking at expanding their network by opening up untried routes, good on them I say.:ok:

So you would think AeroPelican will hire again to fill the routes?

Can anyone reply on the pay and conditions?
Only base Willy?
Wait for command?

Cheers

Quite right people, freudian slip. More likely SY-TW, SY-WG, SY-DU, SY-CB etc.

DJ,

There is no doubt the Embraers will be earmarked for those routes, I reckon first cab of the rank will be SY-CB, it will be interesting to see what Qantas/Qantaslink does to counter the move. Bring back the 717 perhaps?

Cheers, HH.:ok:

Howard,

Your obviously still a young'n. There is very little by way of an untried route. TW - WLM has been done in the past. I dont reckon you will get Tamworth passengers back into a Metro. Might have something to do with Country folk having good memories and recalling that there are still a few burnt part numbers at the end of Rwy 12L.

Can't wait to see that jet fly into Dubbo. VB will be able to use their cherry picker to load up on all of those $88 Rex pax and steal the cherry share of Easterns typical 19-25 pax load.

I think the VB regional is bit of a smoke screen. They are hurting, there are "Stars" in their eyes (Jetstar) and they simply need a smaller plane to offer some flexibility on skinny routes and when loads are lower.

Just like the building game, the airline industry is extremely circular. If you want to know whats coming up, just have a look at the past.

Bob, have you thought about how may pax already travel that route in a year, either by road or the non direct route?

By the way the locals won't need to worry about a Metro, not that they give a toss anyway, provided it gets them there quicker than their current route.

In the eyes of the travelling public there are props, jets and big jets, most don't really care which type of aluminium tubing they are travelling in, just what the donks are and how big it is...:ok:
