I was looking for airports in Russia close to the place I need to visit.
On Google Earth I came across Ulyanosk Northeast. The runway appears to be in the region of 17,000ft in length + huge overuns.
I then noticed Moscow-Ramenskoye, this also appears to be 17,000ft in length. Are these record breakers?

Probably yes!

Plenty of room to land a Cessna...

Rather long, but I'm fairly certain these aren't the longest in the world. Maybe for paved runways they are record breakers.

I think Groom Lake, Area 51, is around 27,000ft. I'm not what the surface is though.

There are some fairly long 'uns at Andrews AFB, but the concrete one is only 15,000ft and apparently was poured in one go. I think the other is something like 7.5miles.

I think the last C172 to land in Moscow went somewhere else :)

only 17'435 FT of Groom lake is concreted... so technically by 435 ft groom lake is longer? :}

I know the longest one as: Zhukovsky.

Landed there a few years ago to display at the 1st Moscow Air Show.

It looks like the longest (and highest) is in Tibet at Bamda Airport with 18,045ft of concrete. It is at an altitude of 14,219ft! (according to Wikipedia)

Regarding the 2 very long runways in Russia.
I was not looking for these.
They just happened to be along my intended route.
Maybe I am wrong, but I assume there must be others in the Russian Federation maybe even longer.I am not sure if the 2 mentioned are even military runways.
The Edwards Airforce Base is well known probaby for possible space shuttle operations.
Ulyanosk, seems to be in excess of 20,000ft with overuns.
But, not intended for space craft operations I assume.
So what is reason for the huge length?
