Fine, but was the aircraft scheduled to fly. Is this not the aircraft that has crew compartment onboard so maybe they were going to sleep it off!!:\

Hmm, is this the giant AN-22 we're talking about? It was supposed to be flying into CGN this evening, but I don't know where from.

it was indeed the AN-22 I say it parked up in Bergen yesterday midday.

surely not

Isn't the AN22 the large turbo prop? An only one is still flying methinks.

The AN124 is the giant of the skies, and the AN225 (?) the even more giant of the skies!

Is it possible that in a crew as large as that the guys who were alcoholically affected were rampies/load masters who would have been mere passengers until the aircraft arrived downroute?

The one and only flying An-22 is turboprops, huge great thing. Not as big as the -124 or -225 mind you.

If you were going to fly one of those contraptions for a living you would probably want to drink to excess too!!! :}

FE had 1.4!
That and the captains 1.1 was measured 3.5hrs after they got stopped at the security checkpoint! A third crewmember is reported to be too drunk to manage the breathalyzer. :oh:

Ouch!! That's a bit of a session then. I wonder if the crew understood the drinking laws in Norway before they went out on one?

Oh dear.

What a heap!!! I'd gladly swap it for a Trabant. Fantastic. Give me 1/2 a litre of Vodka and I'll be able to pass the type rating... Hic!!

Bergen police detain An-22 crew after positive alcohol testsDavid Kaminski-Morrow, London (09Jan07, 16:53 GMT, 150 words)

Norwegian police are considering possible charges against a number of individuals, including cockpit crew, suspected of consuming excessive alcohol shortly before attempting to ferry an Antonov An-22 transport to Azerbaijan.

Four individuals, out of a group of 16 heading to board the huge turboprop at Bergen Flesland Airport around 06:00 yesterday, initially tested positive for alcohol consumption after being stopped at a security checkpoint.

Further tests, says a spokesman for Bergen Airport police, revealed positive tests on another three individuals. The police subsequently detained all seven who included the aircraft’s captain, co-pilot, navigator and engineer.

“Maybe some of these will be held back for a [legal] case,” he says. “But we don’t know how many we’ll hold.”

Another crew was due to arrive from Ukraine today to fly the aircraft out of Norway. It is unclear which company was operating the aircraft which had been chartered to transport industrial equipment.

The aircraft is operated by Antonov Airlines (Antonov Design Bureau)

Four hours after check in the captain was 5 times over the legal limit. Other crewmembers were even more drunk.

See the impressive An-22 take off from Bergen with new crew: (Also check their crew shuttle):

Jack,

Many people will never forget the last time you landed an Antonov.:ouch:

You'd stand more chance of passing the type rating if you gave the training captain a bottle of vodka.:ok:

Please don't call it a heap or make derogatory comments about the aircraft. It has a cute face and anyway - it has PROPS!

They used to say that landing a Beverley was like driving a London bus from upstairs in the last row of seats. Add a bit of weight and a bit of size and a bottle of Vodka and........ I guess the moral of this story is never to fly an Alcohol while under the influence of Antonov!

Seriously though... here we all laugh but it belongs in the ever growing catalogue of alcohol abuse further up this page.

This story were any EU, US or 'other agreed ok airline' lets see how it would look.
Security nazis, etc!
Look at the sticky, ref alcoholic pilots, yet some here jest, just coz it is russian. Please.
Flying through your airspace, wanna joke as you meet it head on.
Alcohol and flying do not gel, same rule world wide. period.
One rule for the family, remove the sticky or stop taking the piss, same rules apply aloft, realy is your choice.

Not much to add from the article:
Captain pleaded guilty.
Occasion was orthodox Christmas.
Quoted as admitting stupid and wreckless behaviour. :ouch:
