Ok, this is the situation.
Patient has had toothache in a rear lower molar for aproximately 1 week.
Has had erythromycin and metronidazole (and sober New Year), for 1 week, toothache slightly better.
Dentist has large pair of pliers and forearms like a slaughterman.
Patient would like to try a more "conservative" approach.
Anyone care to suggest any further drugs ??:} prior to visiting the Butcher of Baguely.

The only thing that worked for any of the toothache I had was
Nurofen PLUS

Dentists over here try very hard not to extract salvageable teeth these days (presume this is a permanent tooth).

Diagnose first, then treat. It'd be nice to have an X-ray for a start. If there is a periapical abcess this needs to be drained/cleaned out (apicectomy or root canal later). Various other possibilities. And erythromicin; well I'd try Cipro or clindamycin in decent doses and lots of chlorhexidine mouthwash.

I really wouldn't rush to extract. You can save most teeth these days if there's a reasonable amount of tooth structure left, and use them as the basis for a crown.
