Can anybody with kids help me out with info regarding the following....

At ek they pay upto 90 percent of school fees, any idea what the cost to me would be per month, per child.
What do rosters look like, would i be away from base a lot?
They say if accomadation is not avl at start date that your family should remain in your country of residence till they have acc ready, how long could this be.
Is there anywhere online i can view the type of villas they offer.

Thanks for any advice you can offer....

The company has a maximum education allowance that they will pay for schooling. If the tuition at your children's school is less than the maximum, Emirates will only pay 90% of that. If the tuition is more, then the difference comes out of your pocket. Like everything else here, the allowances have not kept up with the rising costs of schools.

In short, the company will only take out a maximum of 1000dhs per month (total) for education.

I have a copy of the old employee manual as well as a new one and a contract on yellow paper. It is not 90% nor is it 100%. Roughly for higher grades/levels 100% first 20000 90 % remainder to a max @ 45000 so you would always pay some.

Primary Allowance: If the invoiced Tuition Fees are below Aed 10,000/- the amount reimbursed will be 100%, where invoiced Tuition Fees are above Aed 10,000 then reimbursement will be 90% (subject to a maximum of Aed 30,000/-).

Secondary Allowance: If the invoiced Tuition Fees are below Aed 20,000/- the amount reimbursed will be 100%, where invoiced Tuition Fees are above Aed20,000 then reimbursement will be at 90% (subject to a Maximum of Aed 48,000/-).

The way i read it is that if your claim is above 10,000 or 20,000 respectively (which it most certainly will be) then you will be reimbursed 90% up to the maximum.

It does not say you will only be charged 90% of the portion above 10 or 20K.

So, as most decent primary schools are around 30k, the most you can expect to have to pay is 3k per child in primary school or 4800 per child in secondary. However if your child is at a school whose fees are above 30k (or 48k for secondary) of which there are a few, then your bill will be 3k plus the full portion above 30k, or 4800k plus the full portion above 48K.

Any takers on clarification?

P.S I have just checked my education deductions and I can now clarify that it is 90% of the amount claimed above the 10k or 20k.

So for two kids in primary school i have had 4200 deducted for the entire year against 62000dhs in claims. Fairly reasonable i would say.

I've been here over 8 years and it was never 100% in that time. So if you are referring to before that, then fair cop.

That would just go to prove the point of constantly eroding conditions since day 1 at EK, and you dont need to be a rocket scientist to work out that 10 years from now it will probably be worse.

primary school 28000 dhs, if above 10000 dhs the first 10000 dhs 100% payback, but the remainder amount only 90% up to a maximum of 23500 dhs

secondary school 45000 dhs, if above 20000 the first 20000 dhs 100% payback, but the remainder amount only 90% up to a maximum of 42000 dhs

I did search for the ASD fees and it seems at the end you have to expend your free tax salary paying schools:{

Schooling is one major change from older contracts(13 years ago) as is the ERP, their is absolutely no reference to any cap of 15% as a maximum. However the company will not entertain that any money is owed to me or anyone else who signed prior to the change in 1995. Provided ofcourse your home currency has strengthened against the US DOLLAR.

The company simply responds by saying that "sorry, policy changed and therefore, it applies to everyone." Personally I am owed about 120,000 Dhs.

My contract also mentions schooling provided by company. No mention of any caps or future possible changes to the contract.

Medical and Clinics was another classic one. So the list goes on and on.

ASD fees
Kindergarden 1 11280 dhs (3071 usd)
Kindergarden 2 31680 dhs (8625 usd)
Grade 1-6 47610 dhs (12962 usd) primary school
Grade 7-12 47610 dhs (12962 usd) secondary school

as the maximum amount paid by EK for primary schools is 28000 dhs according to its website (grade 1-6) you will pay the remainder 19610 dhs from your own pocket.
It seems that the EK education allowance only fits in the Emirates International School, even there you pay some cash
