Anyone know if the premium seats get sold on the short haul flights operated by A330.

I'm booked to fly to Dalaman in September but on the seat plan rows 1 -7 show as premium cabin unavailable.

I realise no premium service is offered but seems a waste to leave the cabin empty.

Talking of Bodrum... Wife and kids stuck at BHX currently awaiting an inbound from PMI to take them out there. Currently a 5 hour delay although it landed in Palma more or less on time.

Any knowledge on this?

Alasdair, I can hardly bring myself to read your posts. The lack of normal punctuation and capitalisation makes it unpleasant to look at. Now I know that modern teaching is that stuff like that doesn't matter anymore and, perhaps, in today's classroom that's true. But out in the real world it matters a great deal.

Perhaps you'd care to try a little harder. It's as easy to get right as it is to get wrong.

Just a thought.

Dear Members,

Thank you for your the advice Bernoulli.

My questions are in relation to Thomas Cook Airlines fleet.

Firstly with regard to the new Airbus A321's,
In the current version of the Thomas Cook Inflight magazine it states that the Airbus A321's have 215/220 seats.

Do any of the members know which of these are 215 or 220 ?

I do however know that G-TCDB,G-TCDZ,G-NIKO,G-DHJH,G-OMYJ &G-TCDA have 220 seats.

Secondly;
Will the EX Thomas Cook Scandinavia A321's have 215/220 ?

Thirdly;

Will Thomas Cook be withdrawing their 767's for either the Airbus A330/NEO or A350'S ?

Forth point:

Which other 757's are due to leave in the next years and if it is possible which ones and aproximate dates ?

Final point :

Will Thomas Cook Airlines be making Glasgow an all Airbus base in 2016/2017 ?

I appreciate any help in these matters,
Regards
Alasdair Adam

Charlie98
2nd Sep 2014, 20:35
It'll probably be the first day of the summer schedule as Newcastle was.

I've also noticed Thomas Cook now have 7 A321s due, 4 ex Scandinavian and now 3 extra A321s fresh off the line, will that mean we will see more than the 4 expected 757s leaving this winter?

Matt995
3rd Sep 2014, 17:18
I believe the last day for the 757's at BHX is December 2nd, with the A321's taking over from December 3rd, but as usual things may change!!!

Dear Members,

After sending an e-mail to Thomas Cook I found out some information about fleet plans.
The following was confirmed;

All Airbus A321-211-S have 220 seats these were re-piched for summer from 215 to now 220.

Thomas Cook confirmed that ;
G-FCLA,G-FCLJ,G-FCLK,G-JMCG are returning to lessors in the winter,
Due to 7 Airbus A321-211 4 from Thomas Cook Scandinavia,
and 3 from Airbus.

Thomas Cook confirmed that ;
G-FCLA,G-FCLJ,G-FCLK,G-JMCG are returning to lessors in the winter,

Also believe from Jethro and other sources that G-JMCD and G-JMCE were (supposed to be) leaving in Spring 2015 :)

I would imagine the last bases to have the 757 will be LGW & MAN, that's my guess :)

alasdair1
4th Sep 2014, 11:36
HI ,
Some crew tell me G-JMCD/E are going in march 2015
In the e-Mail I asked which other 752'S are leaving apart from GJMCE/D.
and was told about LA,LJ,LK,CG.

GLA base is likely to be the last base to go Airbus based
As 2015 is currently 752,

GLA will likely go Airbus in 2016 or later any update would be greatly received.

Are any of these older A321s going to be retro fitted with sharklets like TK did with theirs ?

MKY661
4th Sep 2014, 17:08
Well there are 7 A321's due next Summer (4 second hand) and 1 A321 leaving, then I would say if they are all for replacements, LA, LJ, LK, CD, CE and CG will not be in the fleet in Summer 2015 and Then if there are more A321's due for 2016 then the other 4 will go then. I'm not sure if the Boeing 757-300 are supposed to be leaving or not.

If so I heavily doubt anyone will be able to help you thereThe OP has nothing to lose by asking Thomas Cook to look up their tech records, which will contain the information he wants.

If they aren't willing to help, then I agree that it's unlikely anyone else will be able to.

A321 G-TCDD now working for Thomas Cook Scandinavia for the winter

FR24 shows it operating out of then back to the Canaries today. Flight time well over 6 hours on the way back down. Can't fail to be impressed by how much the A321 has improved over the years and it still more to come when the NEO begins flying.

TCDD is LPA based for winter only on lease to Thomas Cook Scandinavia.

Liam did you enjoy the new A321legroom compared to 752?

only four 752's left next summer at present this may change but the four remaining will be:
LI,BB,BC,AN
Three of those based at Gla in summer.
OY-VKA will become G-TCDY
OY-VKB to become G-TCDW
OY-VKE to become G-TCDX
OY-VKT to become G-TCDV

Hi EGAC is best and all,
The A321 was the most cost effective when the decision was made.
I agree the A321 is impressive more now with new technology and.sharklettes, these make the aircraft more aerodynamic and exta fuel burn savings.

I personally love the A321 interiors are spacious compared to the 752.
When the A321NEO comes along I Hope TCX will go for that as it will save more fuel and lighter it also can carry a max of 240 pax and new options for an overwing exit.
Tc are staying ahead of toms 738 .

For long haul I hope they choose either.the A330-800/900 or A330 NEO as its other name.
My other preference would be the A350.

It sounds like im planning their fleet how id love that job but its only my personal choices.

Glad you enjoyed i havent been on any of the new A321's wish glasgow could hurry and get them.
I hear great comments Tc did config them to 215 but then decided to do 220 in stead.
Thair are three new sharkletted a/c comming in during winter along with the VKG ones Ithink these will be BHX based along with an A320, but hopefully the A321's will be rotated round the bases.

Nice to see freindly members on this forum and I feel glad to be part of this group as like all of you I am passionate about TCx and its other airlines.in the tc group.

Mart 901:- no worries I was glad to help you.
I hope that you enjoy the bodrum area, which resort are you staying in?
I usually stay at the Irme Hotel in turgutreis when i fly to Bjv.
Bjv from BHX will be twice weekly next year A321&A320 .

EK77WNCL:-thanks for the information and your reply to my question.

At Gla I would personally like to see the 753 back as the 752's fill up so fast now they are at Lgw I would feel that would warrant the 753.
are their any plans for it to return especially on bjv, dlm& nbe as these are Tcx's most popular routes and Nbe increasing same as dlm in frequency in summer 15.

I see the A330 is to opperate GLA-AYT on a weds morning.
Is this the A330-200 or A330-300 as both are planned in the lh book ?
The rows start at row 8 premuim is blocked off so are the rear cabin middle rows anyone know why this is?
Id say this is in responce to The poularity for turkey routes from Gla.

I dont know why charter has no shows tho sounds strange to me.
I find that tho too as our return flight was booked to 235 both ways and only 230+2 showed and on return 230+2showed but tc had it down as 235 when i asked them for my may trip to BJV
And in oct i was told it was 187pax gla-dlm but it was 185+2 the return was booked to 235 and only 231+1 showed gla-dlm

I hand the flighdeck a logsheet and they fill in for me it was designed by a captain and is handy to track my flights .

Seems Thomas Cook is to introduce LGW-RNO (Reno, Nevada).

Given LGW lost most of its TCX long haul, and that TCX were supposedly going to focus on long haul from Manchester (with Condor doing the same at FRA), its a bit of an out-of-the-box route.

adfly
31st Oct 2014, 18:56
Unless that is their plan of action for LGW, out of the box routes not served by TOM/BA/VS/DU, as opposed to the 'main' more popular routes they focus on from MAN. It could work well for them if there is enough demand for these kinds of route to be profitable.

I wonder if they have any plans to release the MAN-LAX flights, especially as seen as MAN to Boston and Los Angeles were appearing on radio adverts.

Thomas Cook Manchester Expansion

Looking at Thomas Cook schedules it appears they are expanding short haul operations from MAN next summer. Haven't looked at other bases yet.

- Lanzarote 3-4 weekly - New Tuesday
- Antalya 4-7 weekly - New Tuesday/Wed/Fri
- Hurghada 2-3 weekly - New Saturday
- Larnaca 2-4 weekly - New Monday/Fri
- Enfidha/Monastir 6 weekly
- Sharm el Sheik 2-4 weekly - New Monday/Sat
- Palma Daily - Some Condor although most MAN based A/C
- Santorini 1-2 weekly - New Saturday
- Mahon 3-5 weekly
- Skiathos 1-2 weekly - New Friday
- Corfu 2-3 weekly - New Sunday
- Varna 1 weekly NEW
- Faro 1 weekly NEW

Plus all the new long haul increases to Cancun/Orlando/Las Vegas and new JFK/Miami.

- Reno for LGW for winter 2015/2016

They are also leasing 5 A320 rather than the 3 they had this year presumably from Smartlynx/Avion Express
- 1 at BHX and 1 at MAN

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, as I only dip in and out of the TCX forum, but can anyone quickly explain the basis of all the major expansion by the airline from Manchester?

The new routes being announced or increased frequencies, are these already operating at a similar frequency from Gatwick?

I am just a little confused, because I would have thought the airline would want to operate the same routes from a base in the south of England too, to provide access to passengers from both parts of the country to these destinations.

There might be slight variations, but I have always noticed in the past holiday airlines operate almost identical bases from both Gatwick and Manchester, to provide a main gateway airport to all destination in both the North and South of England. This is especially applicable on niche routes where smaller regional UK airports cannot support a route to a small island or lessor known tourist destination.

CabinCrewe

Im not sure im seeing evidence of an autonomous airline any more than previously- all the new routes are tied to Thomas Cook Holidays, lots of the long haul routes are cruise orientated or holiday citybreak marketed with any left overs sold as seat only. Reno for example is not exactly an tour operator unlinked scheduled operation.

Thomas Cook Gatwick Expansion

Further to my previous post, looking at Thomas Cook schedules it appears they are also expanding short haul operations from LGW next summer. The below flights are not loaded yet but the increases are there from the timetable. Looks like a matter of time before times will be added:

- Sunday (New Palma and Sharm el Sheik)
- Monday (New Burgas)
- Tuesday (New Sharm el Sheik and Enfidha)
- Wednesday (New Palma and Corfu)
- Thursday (New Kefalonia)
- Friday (New Skiathos and Ibiza)
- Saturday (New Hurghada and Menorca)

Other changes, Saturday Rhodes to be operated by Germania and already loaded are the new Mytilene flights to replace Monarch charter.

Will continue with other bases.

there are a fair few people who think MyLite was a a massive opportunity lost by short sighted management. Cost per seat mile was about the lowest in the industry, Load factors were good, location was good. Support and direction was useless.

I don't think he was talking about Frank. FP was happy running the cruise side before he was moved to the airline. It was the previous MD who's previous experience was in logistics.

The point is that the CEO of one of the worlds largest IT Operators, who has been lauded for rescuing it from the brink of bankruptcy, has very suddenly and unexpectedly left the company. Yesterday it was with immediate effect, today (via RNS) she will step down on 31st Dec. The whole announcement has been poorly managed - £400m/20% of the value of the company as a result.

The new CEO (former COO) has been at TC for 13 years - so was there the last time it nearly went bankrupt......the financial press is full of speculation. Of course the main question for us drivers is what effect, if any, will it have on us?

No it doesn't.

It's a business story, not an aviation story. Harriet Green is not a pilot or an aviation professional, and there's no suggestion at all that her departure from Thomas Cook is aviation related. Furthermore, it looks like the OP was after a bit of a gossip rather than presenting anything in the way of rumours or news.

The story belongs in the city pages of the newspapers rather than the R&N section of PPRuNe.

One of the reports I read stated that she is taking 6 months' 'gardening leave'. That is generally a euphemism for 'she woz pushed'. With some inside industry knowledge, I heard that although she was successful in some areas, her people management skills were somewhat deficient.
Thomas Cook bosses have refuted suggestions that chief executive Harriet Green was pushed out following her unexpected departure from the travel giant (http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/Articles/2014/11/26/51257/green+quits+thomas+cook.html) today. They would, of course.
She will formally leave the company on June 30, after going on gardening leave from January 1.

The boss of a major airline group with over 70 aircraft leaving at such short notice is certainly big news, particularly given the troubles prior to her arrival and across the industry as a whole.

Speculation as to did she jump or was she pushed and why the news was communicated in a way that resulted in the share price dropping 20 percent are of keen interest to a lot of the professionals on this site.

The rapid management turnover at a lot of charter airlines (over 2 years and you are a veteran) suggests times are extremely hard. The well published difficulties of big players like Monarch and Air Berlin further underline this impression.

Fair comment Basil, but it also employs (some very good) engineers and cabin crew, to say nothing of its use of ATC, airports and ground handling facilities. Oh! And almost forgot the SLF. It's not just about pilots y'know! :)

Clearly the sudden departure of someone so senior in the business is important, but no-one is (or should be) bigger than the business. Total recently lost its CEO in a plane crash, but apart from a knee-jerk reaction from the stock market, little has changed within the company.

Hi

Would appreciate some information from anyone in the know regarding T.C.'s part cancellation policy.

Basic situation is that flights (only) were booked in September 2014 for 4 adults flying GLA - FUE and return next month. Medical issues now mean that 2 of the adults are having to pull out and I'm wondering how best to handle any notification to T.C. re the matter. Their booking confirmation states that:-

"thomascookairlines.com does not allow part cancellations of passengers, dates, times or routes of any flight."

I fully understand that the flight costs are 100% non-refundable and the 2 adults who are not travelling will hopefully be able to claim on their insurance policy but how does T.C. treat the other 2 passengers who are still intending to travel?

Does the entire booking have to be cancelled (with no refunds for anybody) and then re-booked only in the name of the travelling passengers thus incurring another set of flight fees. Or is it simpler (and cheaper) just to advise of the non-travelling pair when we check in at the airport.

Thanks for any information.

What's the current state of play with the TCX fleet, the website is a bit confusing. In parts the 'new' A330 cabin has blue/navy accents, in others yellow and black. It looks like TCX and Condor relaunched their interiors and a few months later the whole group rebranded to the 'sunny heart'?

I'm flying on an A321 to Lleida-Alguaire in March, which should be different! Jethro's is not exactly clear on whats been delivered and whats on order, but it appears TCX have aircraft from a variety of sources, presumably they are all in the usual charter layout?

Anyone know if Condor A320 D-AICJ is joining TCX UK or Scandinavia. Reason I ask is it was recently brought out of Airbourne Colours in full 'Sunny Heart' livery with Thomas Cook titles instead of Condor.

From the LSE forum:

"Thomas Cook holds secret talks to offload airline arm: Holiday Giant Thomas Cook is seeking to offload its airline as part of a turnaround plan following the group’s near collapse in 2011."

Invesco have recently been investing big time in Thomas Cook and hold at least 15% of the shares.

Also more info in the Sunday Times.

Maybe they will start to use the low cost carriers more and reduce the TCX fleet

If they are as serious as I think they are about leisure flying, then British Airways would be the perfect buyer. Rather ironic considering TCX is effectively Caledonian which was BA's 20 years ago.

T2 Office - while Monarch may be in a rather healthier situation today than it was 12 months ago, one should remember that it was far from guaranteed that Monarch would be around in 2015.

What goes in the business section of the sunday papers is frequently rumour based, but those rumours quite often have a basis in reality. If I was working in a behind-the-scenes role at Thomas Cook Airlines, I'd be getting a little nervous about my future.

Thomas Cook has a market capitalisation of 1.8 bn pounds. A trade for 6m pounds is nothing that surprising after a major news announcement - possibly an institutional investor like a fund manager or a hedge fund taking a punt on the company's future.

If a £6m trade was considered highly unusual, the share price would start jumping around to reflect the possibility of a secret buyer of stock. The share price over the last week has barely moved

When a new investor appears on the shareholders register holding 3% or more of the company's equity, then it's more of a conversation piece...

Invesco have made several large "buys" over the last couple of weeks, £8m £20m and the recent £5m. Prior to the recent £5m buy they were holding 15+%.

EasyJet bought GB Airways back in the mid to late 2000s, do they still have appetite to swallow airlines operating to holiday destinations?

Sorry to disagree, easy bought GB Airways for their slots at Gatwick and Blands (the owners of GB) wanted to sell.

26th Feb 2015, 15:07
I personally don't see it happening. EZY had A321's for a couple of years after they took over GB airways but chose not to order any of their own, instead just changing orders from A319's to A320's. Plus TCX also have their 752/753/763 (I don't think the latter two types are due to be replaced too soon) and a growing long haul operation, neither of which are going to appeal much to EZY (in my opinion...).

What's the legroom like on Smartlynx A320's, somebody once said if you sit
in rows 2-5 or maybe 1-5 there is more leg room as they use these rows when the aircraft is used for business class product when operating for other airlines, not sure how correct that is.

Maybe somebody else who has flown on them can confirm this.

Thanks

Depends on which type of seats are fitted, they are all different depending on what previous customer specs were. Problem is the aircraft will get rotated around the network, so who knows which aircraft will end up where.
No NCL this year, Avion are doing it.

With Thomas Cook increasing its long haul fleet both in the UK and with Condor in Germany, I'm guessing they will be thinking about fleet renewal at some point. Would they be more likely to order the A350, A330NEO or the 787's to replace the existing A330s (TCX/VKG) and 767 (DE).

alasdair1
11th Mar 2015, 18:09
Dear goldeneye and all,
I think tcx will opt for either the.A330Neo or.A350 xwb as they are hoping to. Make a common fleet
And cost savings in maintenence.

My guess would be that a long haul order from the Thomas Cook Group is up for grabs for whichever lessor/manufacturer offers the best deal. I think the A350 will be too much airplane for what they need making it a straight shootout between the A330NEO and B788.

Copied from a moderators comments on the Forum SOP's:

........we regrettably must again remind you that the 'Airlines, Airports and Routes' forum isn't the spotters forum. If you ever find yourself tempted to type in a registration number or discuss aircraft livery it is extremely likely that you are making or responding to a spotter post.

Neither is this forum interested in aircraft seating configuration, in flight entertainment, or which aircraft type is flying a particular route.....

That doesn't mean you can't do it, just that this is not the appropriate place. There are other sub-forums such as Spectators Balcony or Passengers & SLF which exist specifically for this kind of chatter.
