JSP 752 (Triservice Regulations fore Allowances) was updated to dii Version 5 on 18 Dec 06.

The biggest change is the incorporation of a new Section 13 to Chapter 10, setting out the rules for the new Operational Allowance.

Other snippets include:

Incidental Expenses: You can now claim Hotel Internet Access costs in lieu of a daily phone call home and a daily newspaper (03.0113).

Subsistence: The drink with meals is now defined as alcoholic or non-alcoholic with Dinner, but non-alcoholic only with Lunch and Breakfast.
(03.0118).

Specific rules for IE for Service personnel admitted to hospital (can include extra items and receipts are not required).

Eligibility for one parent to claim a journey/subsistence to visit a child in hospital.

GPC Cards: Can be used to pay Subsistence costs, but only if the individual card holder is specifically authorised so to do. DS and NS costs may be paid, but not IE (03.0170). Thinks - if I pay my hotel (including meals) bill with a GPC, but the bill includes internet costs (which are IE), where do I stand? Do I have to pay the hotel cash for those first, and obtain a separate receipt? There are more questions than answers (I am sure that is the title of a song from the dim and distant past).

Some other minor changes.

Now if I'm on the night shift, or dawn patrol for that matter, and finish my working day around the time normal blanket stackers are having Ready Brek can I still have an ice cold Guiness with my egg and bacon and call it dinner?

Bound to be a regulation about it in one of our many books. Of course we could all be allowed to use our common sense - I was once trusted with 46 of Her Majesty's finest fast jets and given wide authority to authorise the use of lethal force during a bombing campaign - surely I can be trusted to know when a drop of alcohol is appropriate or not!

Oh silly me of course I can't be. Such momentous decisions are placed in the hands of a Band D quill driveller in Whitehall.

What hotel that charges for internet utilisation costs less than a fiver for the internet connection????. That is before my laundry and paper.

Perhaps those are just the charges for sites of a 'specialist' nature...

Impiger,

I'm sure the early-morning Guiness will be just fine, as long as you promise to drink only orange juice with your evening breakfast!

LJR,

Forget the newspaper if you are claiming internet costs. The one is an alternative to the other. Just read the paper online whilst you are there!

Many thanks for posting this info Ginseng and keep these valuable gems coming as it makes the life of this knackered old ALM a little clearer with regards to FSI completion:ok:

all spelling mistakes are "df" alcohol induced

My pleasure as always.

Today's new snippet is an intended (and detrimental) change to the rules regarding resetting of reserve band dates for SP(F) on return to flying or flying-related duties.

On the issue of JSP 754, the current rules were written to state that if you were on a Reserve band of SP(F) and returned to flying or flying-related duties, you had to complete 91 days on those duties to reset the clock for the Reserve band. That is, once you had served the 91 days, you were deemed to have returned to flying duties so that if you subsequently left them again, you would serve another period of grace before dropping back to the Reserve bands. Now, "as a result of the review" of current pay and allowances, that minimum time is to be increased to 182 days from Apr 07. Source: recent DINs.
