Earlier this week I read on Teletext that aircraft (Virgin were specifically mentioned) were, in future, not going to taxi on departure, but would be towed to a hold by the runway threshold before starting engines.

This was stated to be a measure to cut down on emissions.

The story had gone next time I looked and I've seen no mention on pprune so, was it a spoof?

Including here (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?p=3019454#post3019454), where Capt PPrune himself, no less, gives a very erudite answer.

Thanks for that chaps!

I missed the thread due to the obscure title. Seems to have some practical difficulties to me, but what do I know?
