With heavy regulation weighing on the industry in the region, which airports have more than one ground handling company or is competition prohibited?

Many thanks

or is competition prohibited?
It's more of this rather than anything else for the big "birds".

Depends upon where in the 'Middle East' but most are monopolistic.

In the Gulf:
BAH (1) AUH (1) MCT (1) SHJ (1) DOH (1) RKT (1) FJR (1) KWI (2) JED (2) RUH (2) DMM (2)

Further afield:
THR (1) SYZ (1) DAM (1) BEY (2) AMM (1)

Competition is not prohibited but as 'Fractional' states it is more of the controlling parties protecting their own interests. Competition would be welcomed by most carriers I believe. IMHO that would not actually improve the services delivered or have much of an impact on finances either as rates or quite low already - but then again that is consistent with the general level of delivered service especially on the passenger side. A better option would be to allow self-handling for passenger services for those that could afford to do so.

If competition happens to be allowed someday and there is no financial gains from it (for carriers), would it at least lead to shorter turnarounds?
