I've never heard of them, but then again if you check out there website, they only started operation late Oct 2006 with 2 X 747-400 to Gatwick London.

If you are single and with the right amount of experience( 2000 hours with atleast 1000 jet) and you wish to chase a command....then this looks like a fair gamble to me!But then again then that's just my honest - humble accessment based on what you can gather on there website.

If they coming to JNB, why to apply and go and check it out !!

Goodluck to all applying !!

guys Oasis has only 2 ac they also do not have rights to fly to Europe via russia so they have to go the India route...costing them a bag of money. The crews so far are all ex airline captains between 55 to 65 just filling in the last two to three years of their career. I personally do not see them as a long term prospect.

If you are going to look at them ,make sure that housing in included in the deal as accomodation is expensive over here.

What sort of accommodation will you get for HK$25000 pm? Or, how much does a 2 bed flat out towards Lantau cost pm?

Cheers

25K Will get you a pretty cool spot in Disco Bay - 3 Bedroom/1000Sqft probably even with a balcony or small garden if you search a bit.
Out in south Lantau even better.
Midlevels - 800-950 sqft apartment(2-3 Small bedrooms). The older the building the bigger the size you will get.
aprox 25K is what CX So's start on for the first 2 years...

25k will get you 90m2 appartment in a high rise block. Fine if you are single if you have a family , you will be single very shortly after moving in to a place like that. A low rise place 130 -150m2 will set you back 40-50k for a garen unit and 30-40 for a higher block...then at least you will not have to give your ex a house.

:O

let me know if you need more info about living in Hong Kong

Frogman, get your facts straight. Overflight rights statement incorrect. Housing statements incorrect. Stay away. Honestly, the airline industry really doesnt need individuals like yourselve blemishing it.

Hallo Mangopanga,

I think Frogman is just very honest about what you get expect in Hong Kong..that's all !! After all he has been living-working there for a good 10 years plus !! He even offer his help should you need more info on Honkers !! I think we should give him a break, and maybe listen to what he has to "say",it's up to the individual to decide what to do!!

Maybe you want to share your info with all of us ???????

Thanks mangohead, maybe you can tell me which statements you find incorrect.

Thanks Bianchi for the support.

Let me give you some facts about the over flight rights. Oasis made a mistake with the application of the Russian over flight rights. Instead of applying for a schedule service, the applied under a charter service, which means that they have to apply for every single flight instead of a schedule (fact). So now Oasis has to fly the southern route through India (until they get the rights sorted out), which is about 2-3 hours longer than the Russian route (fact). 2-3 hours of extra fuel is the equivalent of 20 -30 tones of fuel each way (10tones an hour on a heavy 400...also fact). Mango man, maybe you would like to tell me why they are flying the Indian route (Pilots need to practice HF calls?)

About the accommodation, I can only share with you what we have been through here in Honkers...If you are happy to live in a small apartment in a high rise block then 25k will be enough. If you are coming from a large House in Sa with a pool and a double garage you will not enjoy living there (fact). Why do you think that the Cx and KA housing allowances go up to 50K after 2 years and even up to 73K as a captain?

Mango mate why don't you call the Hong Kong Alpa office and find out what 25k will rent you here, at the same time you can ask them about the cost of living, like schooling for your kids, medical expenses etc

Next time you feel the urge to write a post like you just did, sit on your hands for a few minutes and think before you type, maybe then you might want to join a debate instead. :ugh:

I am currently working in the ATC centre adjoining the Russian URAL airspace sector. Oasis pass through our airspace every night, 707 bound for HKG and 700 from HKG. Passing directly through Russia. Strange that?

They have, best to my knowledge, NEVER flown through India.

And thank you, I have contacted an agent in HKG. Heaven knows where you get your information from?

I stick to my statements. If you don't know what your talking about and just want to slate a company because you are a miserable sod. Go away!

ALPHA FLOOR

Now Now boys - put away the knives!

Living in HKG I can tell you that I live in a 120 sqm flat and rent it for 10K per month it has 3 pools and a club house with gym, tenpin bowling ect.

Oasis's first couple of flights routed south due to the said over flight problem but was quickly resolved and has since been flying north over russia!

HKG is 'n lekker plekkie - come and see for your self, dont believe all the retohric. In CX alone there are about 60 pilots who originate from RSA not including HAECO, KA, Business Aviation Center..............

SO APPLY AT THE ROADSHOW - YOU WONT BE SORRY.

Good luck

Couldn't agree more with Alpha Floor! Don't give Hkg a bad rap until you have actually been there. The life style is excellent. To be honest the only down side at the moment is the pollution.
Regarding housing...We were very happy in our little 20K a month dump....;) Most of the agents are helpfull and with some searching you will get yourself sorted in a cool pad. You can check properties out online ( enter area , size and your budget to get the best search results) - Centaline , Midland Realty , Savills and Hong Kong Property. Just remember that the normal agent fee is half a months rent but that can be negotiated. Also Oasis may have a deal with certain agents for Zero commision.Good luck!

Mango,

Whats ur story dude, there are people here that are researching information about a new start airline and your misleading post are of no value.

On the Fragrant harbour forum ,you has told us you got a inteview and subsequently a job offer. Yet you have provided no details when asked by a few of the members.

On the African form , you have stated that you work in ATC

Got YA ! .... Here are your last few posts.

Thanks for nothing. Dude.

Anyone attend the Oasis HKG Roadshow @ ORTIA recently?

Heard that they were doing Interviews for 747-400 FO's based in Hong Kong. Rumour has it that some Sim Rides were also done on the SAA 747-400.

For those who did attend - Good Luck!

Has any SA pilot who applied to Oasis Hong Kong online, or has attended the open day a few weeks ago had any feedback regarding an interview?

I know they were on a major recruitment drive but so far I've heard of no-one attending any interviews...

Skyvan, any more details?
Do they have start dates or are they coming to HK for a second interview?

Good news either way!

Can anyone comment.....any truth in the rumour that the training manager who paid a visit to our shores looking for crew, has been relieved of his position???? This would mean that any recruitment/interviews in the near future have been put on the back burner.
Remember its a rumour.....but comments would be appreciated since many are waiting confirmation of an interview date!
Also heard that senior Mango pilots have accepted positions at Oasis........umm more jobs for the masses then!

4 years an So is only true for Cx, what about Cx freighters which could give you command in 4 years. What about Jet airways which is offering overseas bases on 13000 Us a month. What about Korean, Asiana, China Airlines, King Fisher, all the airlines in the middle east. All you have to do is pick up a flight international, there are tones of jobs out there

Believe the SA chap that conducted most of the SA interviews and offered the jobs to the Mango pilots has been fired/dismissed/agreed to leave....

So the heavs at Mango wont be going by the sound of it, and now you know why the others have heard nothing - I wonder if Oasis management knew about these interviews.

Was speaking to a Spoories capt last week whose son is waiting to hear and he has likewise heard nothing.

As a very senior capt at a local airline says: These start up airlines they come and go so quickly.......

xavierb
2nd Feb 2007, 10:59
I hope your very senior Cpt will be wrong this time... But for sure, if you want to be, one day, a very senior cpt in a company, or you better start very young, or you have to accept to take the risk with a start-up, and cross your fingers. My choice here....
Next 2 a/c coming in June and August.
For latest interview of CEO, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/oasis_hong_kong_airlines, espacially bottom of page.

If You are considering resigning from your established job for a position with a startup do the following

Go to bed and do not get up until the feeling goes away!

Goldfish Jack
4th Feb 2007, 18:15
Here here ZS340.

Seen far too many people resign from stable jobs to go to new low cost carriers and end up with nothing.

Rolls over and goes back to bed..........
