On landing in slippery conditions, the pilots were unable to keep the aircraft on track and it veered off to the right of the runway. The DC-9 ran over soft ground for about 200 metres before it came to rest in mud. At the time the runway at Luena was wet from recent rainshowers. Apparently no person on board suffered serious injuries.
