Today, when a friend of mine asked me if I know whether my airline is getting over 60 Boeing 787's, I almost fell off the chair.

So, the name of this website is the Professional Pilot Rumour Network. According to him, he cites a source at Boeing who says that a Middle Eastern carrier has ordered (I believe the number was 67) Boeing 787's, however, the name is still a secret. Any speculation on who it might be or did I miss a headline?

Someone told me ,Qatar Airways are the ones...........Probably cancellation or a late delivery of the Airbuses they ordered...:)

It's etihad boys....but at the moment it's only a letter of intent. Pending confirmation that delivery dates will start from launch...2010. 747-8 also being negotiated.

Hmmm. Is there an overcapacity problem in the Gulf, and specifically in the UAE? :hmm:

2007 should be a very significant year for mid-size long haulers, with a number of airlines having expressed intentions for aircraft in this class. As well as EK and EY mentioned above:

- QR: still interested in 350, despite 777 order; has expressed disappointment in delays, so will drive a hard bargain from Airbus, or else ... 787?

- Kuwait Airways: said to be in talks with Boeing about 787s already.

- GF: has already announced intention to replace 767s, possibly older Airbuses; 787 most likely?

- Saudia: also expressed interest in aircraft in this size category, although timescale unclear.

SV or GF first came to mind as the 787 is right for them (size and range). However, the number 60 would discount them as they tend to be more realistic in thier operations.

Well.........I heard on the old grape vine....as you do, that EK are looking at about 100 787's.

Simple! , they buy Boeing slots then resale it later for better money!
Believe Ryanair doing the same too in combination with their own needs!:hmm:

GF had some APUs years ago...trouble was they never worked June to September.

Nothing works in the Gulf June-September APU's are just one on a very long list.
Latest rumour is a 56 day Ramadan Period due to the over recovery in personal productivity this year!!

Any more news on this?

RJ just ordered five today (although not yet clear if they're coming directly or via a leasing agency). With production slots filling up quickly to 2012, whoever it is who is buying these aircraft - EK, EY or others - would want to move quickly.

Just a thought; there is, I understand, a Gulf "alliance" of airlines (can't remember its name) - which includes many of those likely to want new aircraft, for example KU, SV, EY, EK, WY and GF. Might it be possible that these carriers would launch a joint order?

Panama Jack may be closer to the order figures than he realises nearly a year ago. Things actually do happen, just not in the time we think. Digging things up a year ago puts a bit more perspective on things.

Gulf News reports this morning that:

Emirates has said it is considering an order between 50 to 100 mid-sized aircraft, and it is thought the airline will order either the Airbus A350XWB or Boeing 787 Dreamliner in a deal that could be valued at between $15 to $20 billion.
Emirates has also said it would like to double its order of A380 aircraft, which currently stands at 55.
Qatar Airways will reveal whether it is the buyer of a 30-plane order for 787 Dreamliners that has been on Boeing’s order list for an “undisclosed” client.
Air Arabia said it may order as many as 50 aircraft and is expected to choose between the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 in a deal worth potentially $4 billion.

The 350 will be great, have no doubt. The 787 has a huge backlog of orders, plus production delays, which are as yet undetermined. Plus Boing wouldn't commit to the stretched version EK wanted.

Now all we need is a decent salary/package to retain the current pilots :{:{
