So what are the Dolts up to now! Recently several trips through MAN security had us falling over ourselves with disbelief. First trip through, using the South gate (Cargo side) were told one in three had to remove their shoes. As there was three of us a quick discusion as to who it should be and elected the crew member without the 'security risk shoes'. So what was the point there!
Next trip we all had an overnight bag as well as a flight bag we were told we can only take one bag with us, the other must go seperately and be placed in the lower deck where access cannot be made. Sound logical?? Well, we all chose to take on board our overnight bag and send our flight bags down under. Not an eyelid was blinked by the security staff but boy did we have a laugh as needless to say if there was still a bag that was a security risk if we had access to it in flight would we elect to make that one inaccessable??
Then to top it all, to enter the aircraft our passes needed to be checked. On this occassion it took two security staff to carry this out. When I refused I was told that it was a requirement however on asking them what authority they had they became argumentative. I then pointed out that I would have to call Security myself as they were in a secure area without any ID They stated that whether they chose to display their ID or not was for them to decide and I had no right to demand to see such. A stand-off ensued in which with a little shouting from them as I headed off up the stairs to the aircraft with the 'security staff' eventually but very reluctantly showing me their ID which they then promptly tucked back out of sight.
If security is such an issue why do we have to put up with incompetance on this scale?:\

Presumably displaying their ID also tells you their name, and they would prefer you not to know that as you might include their identity in the complaint you or your employer subsequently make to their boss?:ugh:

It is normally a requirement at all airfields, and MAN would be no different, for I/D to be displayed at all times when airside. Next time, get a witness to the refusal to display, and report them.

security id need to be on show at all times at chest hight facing forward and the right way up. to conform with the terms of issue and existing bey-laws this card must be produced on request to a security officer. but i will agree some security bods are idiots.

Such seemingly pointless and ineffective security procedures defy belief. I witnessed the following recently (not at manchester):
An atco at a non nats unit wanted to show some nats controllers around. The nats controllers turn up at security with their nats passes, start to go through the procedure of being scanned/searched when one security person asks the controller 'are nats passes allowed'. sic. Another security person phones the supervisor who decides that 'visitors passes' must be issued. So be it,each nats controller fills in a form, name employers name etc. On this form there is a line to fill in which says something along the line of 'what proof of identity has been shown'.Guess what...of course, their nats passes. Visitors pass is then issued, visitors looking a little puzzled, securirty people a little embarrassed at the inane procedure. Who is responsible for farces such as this?

Same airport, different day. Atco arrives at work (tower is airside), has to remove shoes and coat for search but can then drive car airside (achieving what security?). Whilst being searched an aircraft , about to be used for a pax flight is towed past security onto the apron, ready for passengers. Security person is asked who has searched that aircraft or the people towing it or any of the others who had access to it whilst it was parked on the other side of the airfied. The answer -the engineers who were working on it-sic.

Point being any security system is only as good as it's weakest point, incidents like this expose security as a farce and in truth it is often achieving nothing but frustration amongst people who can see it as such.

To those making the decisions-If there must be 'proper' security then make it work properly and gain the respect of those who have to go through it by explaining how it works!

Don't even get me started on security staff in terminal one, THEY ARE ARROGANT RACISTS. I was flying to BHD with flybe on the 22nd october, coming home from the man u-liverpool match (2 nil!). I waited in the queue for UK domestic flights for thirty minutes, only then to have a security women say "Get in the queue for the Republic of Ireland". Obviously NI is part of the UK and not Ireland as I tried to keep telling her, but got nothing back but "it isn't!" (they're thick as well!) Somehow I got into the ROI queue. A fat english policeman was waddling along chucking out drunk football fans, fair enough, BUT the worst is still to come. The policeman shouts at the top of his voice "Not more gobby Irish people!", which is very offensive. A man in the queue actually shouted back "sorry i don't like that, its very racist", and the man checking the passports and boarding cards actually agreed with him! The worst bit has got to be when I found out an hour later that the queues for domestic Uk and Ireland flights ended at the same place with the same conveyor belts! The police, the security staff, and whoever manages the security layout, are all racist, disorganised, geography lacking C*CKS. And yet they work in airport?:confused:

Oh no it is not! At MAN your pass has to be displayed face up and at chest height and any other pass carrying member of staff can ask to see it. All of the details are detailed in the little booklet you get when you accept responsibility for your pass.

As for security at MAN, please don't get me started. It is a shambles, no one seems to be following the same procedures. I am always pleasant and co-operative when clearing, but it is tiring having to remove all my outer layers and shoes everytime I head airside.

Todays star quote was this. I had popped to boots to buy some breakfast (flapjack and apple slices) before heading through security. As I got to the machine to begin putting all my gubbins into trays I was asked, "is that a bag of liquids?" erm, nope it is a bag of apples.:ugh: :{

BHDFlyer the reason you have to go down the Dublin channel is because all flights to the Republic of Ireland,IOM,The Channel Islands and Northern Ireland are monitored by Special Branch. Big brother, I know !!
Unfortunately after a big Man U game there are a lot of drunk passengers passing through security causing lots of problems. As we all know it's the minority that spoil it for the rest us.

Security is so bad that a certain bunch of engineers from a large (ish) British airline have started snaring the rabbits by the perimeter fence as the numpties on the gate wont let em bring fresh food airside!!!:D

As another regular traveller to belfast, I too am p****d off with this security explanation. Is someone telling me that passengers flying to belfast etc are higher risk than those travelling elsewhere. Considering the security situation on the mainland now, I'm afraid I'm not convinced. One major point, you see, the terrorists in Northern Ireland always wanted to get back to their bed at night. We should be vetting pax coming over here. The treatment vetted out to those flying especially to belfast is just pure racist. And why do we always have to be taken to the most distant door to enter the terminal, usually driven past several entry doors and with a door right by the aircraft, which we're not allowed to use. Then when you get in, where are these special branch, must be hiding, because I never see them. Maybe they're scared that there might be a terrorist on board!
