Open your eyes, look to the skies when you're lonely,
There will be stars shining for you.
Sleepers awake, it's getting late, snow is falling.
The whole wide world is wombling too.

All day long we will be wombling in the snow,
We wish you a Wombling Merry Christmas.
All day long we will be laughing as we go.
We wish you a Wombling Merry Christmas.

Under the ground there is the sound of a symphony.
The lights are low, the fire is bright.
Wombling through, I'll tune into you, you tune into me.
We'll send a message into the night.

My kids are into,

Mom made beans for dinner
you know i ate em all
said come get your coat on
goin to the mall
gona visit santa
and sit apon his knee
but all that I could think about
was how not to cut the cheese
waiting there for santa
thought that id explode
the gas bubble grew bigger
with every ho ho ho
try my best to hide that I was doing swell
but when Isat down on santas lap he hollard whats that smell !

~chorus~
I farted on santas lap
now Christmas is gonna stink for me
I farted on santas lap
now ill get &*&*&*& under my Christmas tree

I asked him for a baseball
I asked him for a bat
I asked him for some ice skates
but I'll get none of that
I asked him for a lot of things
I'll have to do with out
when i sat down on santas lap
I let one slip out

~chorus~

On Christmas eve I snuck out
of my bed with out a sound
went down to the living room to take a look around
and then I saw santa next to the Christmas tree
his arms were full of preasents and they were all for me
put them in a pile got up to turn around
then blew a fart with such great force our tree all most fell down
so I'll always charish that special moment when
I realized even old saint nick rips one now and then

~chorus~

Jinkster, with you all the way. Christmas isn't Christmas without Fairytale of New York, captures the exact spirit.

Radio1 the other day were working out which song to play as it was Dec 1st, somebody suggested this one but it was quite rightly pointed out that it wasn't quite close enough to Christmas for the Pogues - too early just spoils the song.

Worst song would be another good question - The Darkness - Chrismas Time (Don't let the bells end) gets my vote every time.

Gotta be Fairytale for me too...

Good ol' Shane - he was born on Christmas day too believe it or not! That track has kept him in gin for the last 20 odd years, gawd bless him. Amazingly it never reached number one though. Here's to Shane: "nah, I don't wanna si'down!" :}

Must be the Twelve days of Christmas narrated by the bloke who was Father JAck in "Father Ted". A tale of complete chaos.

Closely followed by "Santa Claus you Ba***rd Where's me F***IN Bike" by some Aussie bloke who sounded awfully like Joe Mangle from Neighbours.

Went summat like,
Sata Clause you BAs***D wheres me f***ING bike,
I've been through all the junk you left and theres nothing that I like,
I wrote you lots of letters, even went to see you twice,
So, Santa Claus you BA**ARD, Wheres me F***IN bike?

Hilarious

That may sound hilarious to you Mr Cruces but to those of Christian Faith, and especially those with young children (of similar Faith) that is an offensively mocking portrayal of the beliefs of millions....

Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas. Plenty of interpretations of this song but for me, it points out the commercialism of Christmas. Superbly dovetailed Sergei Prokofiev motif towards the end. Silent Night is another classic.

Two about Christmas in New York...

Call on your angels
Come down to the city
Crowd around the big tree
All you strangers who know me
Bring your compassion
Your understanding
Lord how we need it
On this New York City Christmas
~ New York City Christmas, Matchbox 20

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night
~ Fairytale of New York, The Pogues (as Jinkster said)

(There are lots more)

Then...

Sloan Wainright's rockin' cover of Blue Christmas.

Sarah Lentz's gorgeous, spare piano rendition of What Child is This?

The Ink Spots singing Christmas With You.

I love traditional Christmas Carols. Used to sing 'em in a school choir.

Seconded
" they sold me a dream of Christmas,
They sold me a virgin birth"

Dark and cynical - my favourite.

Greg Lakes song - brilliant! :D

I also quite like the Jesus was an alien song by Chris DeBurg - was it 'Spaceman came travelling'? One for the conspiracy theorists there...

Worst? - why is 'The Power of Love' on every xmas cd, I'm sure it doesn't even mention xmas. Theres not even the obligatory jingly-bell percussion. Not to mention its just a general carp tune. Get rid! :yuk:

Stille Nacht, Heil'ge Nacht. (even in English)
Jingle Bells
I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas
The Twelve Days of Xmas

Like all music, hearing a song recalls a happy memory asociated with it.

Except for my least favourite - that bloody Rumpa-Pum-Pum drummer boy crap. I find it hard to resist throwing the radio out of the window when I hear that one.

The Inkspots, very impressed. I like them a lot. (I'm not a coffin dodger)

I'm not a big fan of festive tunes, it's the same ones over and over again.
Slade ought to be taken out and put against the wall. Stupid song every year in every shop when you're trying to buy presents for people you don't like.

Stille Nacht, Heil'ge Nacht - brilliant
Rumpa-Pum-Pum drummer boy crap - sorry, I like that

And as sung by the eternal Eartha Kitt...

Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree,
For me.
been an awful good girl,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a 54 convertible too,
Light blue.
I'll wait up for you dear,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all the fun I've missed,
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed,
Next year I could be just as good,
If you'll check off my Christmas list,

Santa baby, I wanna yacht,
And really that's not a lot,
Been an angel all year,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa honey, there's one thing I really do need,
The deed
To a platinum mine,
Santa honey, so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex,
And checks.
Sign your 'X' on the line,
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight.

Come and trim my Christmas tree,
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's,
I really do believe in you,
Let's see if you believe in me,

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing,
A ring.
I don't mean on the phone,
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry down the chimney tonight,
Hurry, tonight.

If anyone within reach plays I'm Walking in the Air or whatever it's called by Aled Jones I'm going to stuff two cocktail sausages up their nose and hit them with a turkey leg or something. Hate it.
Season of goodwill and all that. ;)
