There's a lot of rumour and speculation going around about PAYD and its future. I'm currently living with PAYD, am writing a brief for the Boss and am after some facts, so please don't treat this thread as an opportunity for a whinge or to launch a diatribe. My timescale is fairly tight so answers soonest please.

Does anyone know if PAYD has been halted in any areas of the Service(either temp or permanent)?

Do Stn Cdrs have a say in whether PAYD is implemented on their Stns?

Does anyone know of anywhere where PAYD has been a roaring success and, more importantly, how has this been achieved?

At a secret Naval airstation in Somerset PAYD has been a resounding success. Mainly because the lessons identified at Culdrose were implemented and all the suugestions were considered.

1. Does anyone know if PAYD has been halted in any areas of the Service(either temp or permanent)? Not at Yeovilton

2. Do Stn Cdrs have a say in whether PAYD is implemented on their Stns?
No.

3. Does anyone know of anywhere where PAYD has been a roaring success and, more importantly, how has this been achieved?
Yeovilton is working fine. However, there is no core menu at Yeovilton and so maybe that has someting to do with it. MOst of the lads I have talked to are more than happy to continue with PAYD and in some cases (particularly the Senior rates mess) the take up has increased. For instance, previously if you wanted to have Lunch you had to go through the rigmaoroll of purchasing a meal ticket from the mess manager who was only available between the hours of 0900 am - 0901 am. Now the boys can just pitch up and buy lunch....certainly the SR's in my division are V happy with PAYD. And where else could you purchase a tiptop curry with all the trimmings for jusr £2.90 ??

Vec.
You are quite mad.
Whilst I would agree that it is infinitely better than Culdrose, to call it a "resounding success" is ridiculous.
It is better than Culdrose in that it has, so far, only slightly dropped the standard of food in the Wardroom, unlike Culdrose which became instantly inedible.
If that is what you would term resounding I would hate to see what you would consider bad.

Why not go into the Airman's Mess at mealtimes and ask the lads and lasses what they think of it?

Exactly what I did and the answer - Success. The lads thought it was ok (ish) general mutterings about the quality but If the lads HADN'T been moaning about the quality then I would have been worried. As for the wardroom....I have just eaten a fantastic 3 courser...Good quality and very cheap.

When I talked to the lads the one question I did ask was

"would you like to go back to paying for every meal whether you ate it or not"....and the answer was a resounding ....... NO
