Does anyone know how it works when you get your unfrozen licence just after joining EZY? Do you just have to show your new licence to someone and you go onto SFO status/money straight away, or do you have to wait for your next 6mth line check or anything like that first? If anyone has actually been through this situation at EZY your info would be appreciated a lot.

Also, what if I do manage to get the total hours needed and the full licence just before joining? The contracts I received are on the basis of FO not SFO as that is what I would be today. Is the upgrade that automatic on production of the full licence?

Looks like I will be within 50hrs under or over of the magic 1500hrs when I join...would expect to definately have the total needed during or soon after line training.

Thanks

You are allowed to request an intermediate simcheck when you have reached the requirement for an ATPL, so you don't have to wait untill your next check.

Thanks Joe,

So this means you do need a sim check to take SFO status into account? How long should it take to get the intermediate sim ride (B737)? Is this only when you have the 1500hrs prior to licence issue or do you wait until you have the licence in your hand?

Does this mean that if I show up on joining day with full ATPL then my refresher training and sim check will be geared towards being signed off as SFO from the outset? Would they be paying me SFO salary (90% thereof, I know) before having sim checked me as SFO.

I can't imagine whats different in sim checks between FO and SFO. Is the intermediate sim check upon reaching the hrs requirement to do with getting the fresh LPC/multi crew IR renewal after reaching 1500hrs for licence issue purposes?

Sorry, it appears more complicated than it should be!

Thanks...

alternate, are you aware that you can count 100 hours sim time towards the magic 1500 hours? So, if you have 1400 hours flying time and 100 hours sim then you qualify. No need to wait til you've got 1500 hours. :}

What are you joining as TRSS or Cadet or Direct entry FO?? Depending on what you joined the company as will depend on what you get paid. You can be a SFO and be on the TRSS scheme but your salary would be different to a direct entry SFO. But you can do your ATPL sim check at any of your sim rides, no difference between SFO and FO you still do the same job!!

Doesn't matter - TRSS or direct entry still have pay differentials between FO and SFO that depend on having frozen/unfrozen licence. This has nothing to do with TRSS SFO vs Direct Entry SFO. Whatever flavour of FO/SFO you are, the distinction remains the same.

Would a CADET be contemplating making SFO anytime soon.....???

The question is about getting the pay rise from EZY when the licence becomes unfrozen, not about what kind of hours make up an ATPL, nor what scheme you join EZY on. Discussions about these things can doubtless be found elsewhere.

Possibly helpful, from the horse's mouth (amongst other FAQs):

I am down as a First Officer, what will happen if my ATPL get unfrozen before I start on the line? Once you have a full ATPL you will be eligible to become a Senior First Officer. If you get your ATPL licence before your course starts you need to send a copy of it to the pilot recruitment department who will then send you a change of rank letter. If this happens during the course of your training you need to bring the copy to the training department.

Anyway, if you are definitely soon to join EZY (as opposed to applying) then why not ask them directly, rather than us random collection of weirdos on PPRuNe? And why not worry about these things nearer the time? For now, just relax and enjoy the line training!

Hi joe,
Are you sure that you can request an early sim check? I have joined as FO ,only 50 Hrs short of the required amount to unfreeze and I have been told by the training dept that you can request that an OPC becomes an LPC but the sim will not be brought fwd!

If you know any different would you be so kind to let me know who to contact please? either a public or private reply appreciated ,
cheers,

The new deal states:

F/O will be able to request an out of sequence LPC in order to facilitate the grant of an ATPL with effect from 1 Oct 2006.

I have misunderstood the 'out of sequence' part, so the training department is correct.

Next time I'll sit on my fingers and double check before replying.

Cheers Joe

Thankyou for the info so far...

Gary, my reason for looking at this situation now is that if getting the hours just after joining means waiting 6mths for the chance to do an ATPL skills test (out of sequence LPC) then this has some financial effect. If on the other hand everything was do-able any time you got the hours then it wouldn't be as important. From the answers given, it looks as if it is a bit important.

As direct entry FO this means missing out on £7465pa worth of salary, or an extra £622 per month before tax. This is taking the 90% business into account. In my book that is money worth considering.

Just hope I can have those hours before joining, then use the first EZY LPC as ATPL skill test. I don't have LPC due in my current job before joining EZY.

Cheers everyone.:ok:

Am in the same position, will have the hours just about when I go to easy but need there LST since I`m not due another LPC with my employer either. Does anybody know if either easy or the Caa have to be advised when you undertake your LST when you`re about to apply for your ATPL?

I never informed the CAA about my LPC. Just sent in all the required bits of paper and of course the payment slip, which is the most important.

So no need to inform.......it's probably written somewhere that you should, but in practice for me anyhow, it was not required.

Easy.........

And an LST counts as an LPC doesnt it?

Ye, they just throw a little bit extra onto the end, and fill in another form.

More than likely a raw data ILS approach.

Your examiner will know all the details.......they've done it many amny times.

Okay, thx a lot for that.:ok:
And the nuance between LPC and OPC would be ??...

They are largely the same but the LPC requires a SID and STAR and the SE ILS and GA must be manually flown.
