Hi, i'd like to know if there is anyone who learnt at progress flight academy(port elizabeth).
How is the whole place like?
How are the instructors?
What is the ratio of instructors to students?
Any hidden charges?
and any other thing you would like to say about them

Did my flight training there, was a few years back now, 2000, but it was a good training organisation and one never felt like you were being treated as just a number.

I am sure it is still very good, I recommend it.

I'm interested in doing my PPL abroad too and had contact with a lady from germany who did her PPL there and made a website about it:

Website Progress PPL (http://www.analytikerin.info) The website is in german language but You may contact her on the email given there. I did it and she was very positive about Progress Flight Academy.

A general question: How long is a SA-PPL valid? Can You loose it when You can't fly for some time due to life circumstances?

I'm still not sure if I should decide for a USA-PPL or SA-PPL, as a US-PPL is valid the whole lifetime. But I would love the adventure to do it in SA.

Which other Flight schools can You recommend in SA that offers 4-6 week intensive PPL-courses?

i was there 95-96 aswell quite simply put in bryan adams style "those were the best days of my life"...whilst we are praising the academy id like to add a vote of thanks to a great men that made it all possible for me ..wing commander ted lunt and alan totman may their soul rest in peace...coming back to the question at hand,im sure with john still in control of the place it will still be moneys worth trg.

Excellent school with the focus - rightly so - on the quality and depth of flight training.

Recommend the nearby Greenbushes Motel for food and accommodation though. Or have they sold?

Recommend the E-club in downtown PE, especially Wanda does wonders!

Hi there

I attended Progress a few years back. Its a fantastic school with a huge emphasis based on flight safety. The PPL and COM flight instruction was absolutely brilliant. If i have to give you a negative i would probably say their ground school courses are slighltly slow and tedious. The aerodrome is only a couple of miles away from both PE airport and the general flying area. The PE ATC controlers are the most accomodating in the country for light aircraft, and deserve a lot of credit for the academy's success.

thanx for all your replies, one thing i have noticed is that it is an aerodrome on its own. can one have accomodation outside the aerodrome and how much does it go for an average single guy?

Hi Rigs
It is an aerodrome on its own with relatively simple accomodation on site. I decided to stay outside the academy in a lodge a few miles up the main road which was very pleasant. The area of Seaview is about a ten min drive away and has a few bed and breakfasts etc. (fantastic area for fishing) Its also nice to stay on the main beachfront in town, however it is a thirty min drive to the academy. If You have your own transport i would reccomend you stay outside the academy, thats my personal choice. The guys and girls that stay onsite really seem to enjoy it.

Well I believe 43 is a very good school also.
But at the moment my intentions are to go with Progress, just seeking recent or current students.
