A student of mrs batninth from the local art college is doing his project based on a Spitfire. He is looking at the possibility of taking a mold of a Spitfire propellor blade (if allowed to),

Can anyone point to a Spitfire close to West Yorkshire that he could approach about the possibility of taking a mold off a prop. blade? I've suggested the Hurricane at Breighton, but that's not artistically true to what he is trying to portray, and my suggestions og asking Duxford or Shuttleworth are both too far away.

Thanks

I think that the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester has a Spitfire

Rolls Royces Spitfire is undergoing its winter maintenance I believe at East Midlands Airport, you could try contacting their historical branch, http://www.rolls-royce.com/history/heritage/corp.jsp failing that what about still trying for the Hurri at Breighton owned by Taff Smith? I believe he has sold the spit, but that does not mean he does not still have a blade about...there was a seafire blade on ebay for sale of late too.......

Robert Flemming's Hurricane (and Buchon) were sold late September and are currently at Duxford.
Taff still has his Mustang at Breighton.

Your best bet is a museam or someone who happens to have one above his fireplace at home for a Spit blade mold, most marks of popular Spit are wooden blades and extreamly expense so I cant think of many owners who would risk any form of damage to the blade.
If memory serves me correct the one in Manchester is a Mk16 which will have wooden blade so try giving them a call.

Remember the Spitfire had a great range of props so depending on what his project is, if he gets the wrong mark it could be more incorrect than the Hurricane!:8

I started explaining this but these artist types see life quite differently - what the student would really like is that his mold is taken off a propellor from a spitfire that truely has seen action (I know that is highly unlikely). I had originally suuggested any prop from the maintenance team at the local aero club

I can't say too much about his project as it has to be assessed & we get into the sticky waters of originality, plagarism etc, but it's to do with the counterpoint between horror of war & commitment to King & Country, hence the need ideally for something that has seen action.

Thanks to everybody, mrs batninth has been able to steer the chap in several directions on this one.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's a XIV.
