Stay at the University but book right now. You hesitated? I mean right now! Do a google search... and if necessary book for 2008.

Hey..like he said, book yesterday...but not really from the tower, that is I just heard it from the tower a few years ago...time to smile...

Remember, no call signs...just type and color etc...
Picture this...

tower: "Beach 18 on four mile final, can you slow it a bit and follow the low wing turning final ahead?

Beach 18..."sure tower, how slow do you need?"

tower: "Would you believe 40 knots?'

....chuckle, "you got it!"....

Id be grateful for any info aswell.

I wont be flying my own aircraft in but will be doing a commercial flight from the uk to chicago and then upto Oshkosh. Cant find any hotels, all booked already will check th university though. What about hiring a camper van and staying on-site?

This is the best method. You will be amazed at the people you meet camping here. Middle of the week, there might be a queue for a camp site. You have to pay for the whole week, but you get a refund if you leave early. Even now you might have a problem locating an RV rental close by. Would suggest Chicago as a good start!

Camping is the way I've always done it. You're there soaking up the atmosphere full time! And it's really a dawn till dusk happening. Arrivals at 6am right until dusk about 9pm.using simultaneously THREE runways, streaming on all. My recommendation is 36L/18R for the heavies (longest runway). Heavies,I hear you say? Oh yes! Like 747s from NZ,etc.

Campsite cannot be booked in advance, though there is room for 40,000 (that's right, you heard it correctly!),maybe more now.The website says clearly, that there is ALWAYS room to camp! I take a tent in my luggage (actually inside my suitcase, less chance of it going astray)

You have to be a member to camp, but joining is the cheapest way to gain entry to the event also if staying the whole week.

By the way,if you can,be there for the weekend preceding the official start on Monday 23rd,as there will be 1000+ arrivals before the start! (Camping will be open, and access to the field)
