MOSCOW, AUGUST 12, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent/ -- President of Russia Vladimir Putin has congratulated the personnel and veterans of the Russian Air Force with the 89th anniversary of its creation.
As the press service of the head of state reports, the text of the congratulation, in particular, reads as follows: "our pilots have always served as an example of the greatest courage, faithfulness to their duty and professionalism. Their heroic deeds created the world glory of domestic aviation. The names of Nesterov, Chkalov, Grizodubova, Kozhedub, Pokryshkin and many other remarkable aviators will always stay in our memory." Vladimir Putin stressed that today the Air Force "is the reliable support for the country's defence might. In any conditions the personnel fulfils with honour responsible assignments for the protection of the Russian air border." "I have no doubts that in the new millennium you will continue as well the glorious combat traditions of Russian aviation. I am sure that the keys to the sky are in reliable hands," the congratulation says.
