The following on Reuters.

08:37 21Nov2006 RTRS-Rome's Ciampino airport closed after bomb threat

ROME, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Rome's second-largest airport, Ciampino, was ordered closed to all traffic on Tuesday following an anonymous telephone call claiming that a bomb was on board a cargo flight, airport sources said.

Edited to add realise my headline is crud and could be misleading. Apologies, can a mod fix?

Just called my girlfriend who's waiting to board EZ5254 (dep. Ciampino 09.35 UTC) and she's remarkably oblivious (as usual).

(Update 09.27: flights not boarding, no announcements made)
(Update 10.20: airport reopened to traffic, flights boarding)

I heard it was a cargo airplane, according to CNN news? Any one knows which airline?

Just updating to say the airport re-opened pretty rapidly. A hoax.

Six flights were re-routed to Pescara.

Interesting that a thread about a major Italian airport being closed totally is moved here (no problem with that per se) but one about one runway at Manchester being closed because of a burning smell on a Dash remains on R&N.

Still, not my toy. :}
