Wtf "tifters" on my opinion this song repreasents the dream of most student pilots to get upto there target. This song actually motivates me when I feel low during my study and career, it brings me back up to say to myself that I can really fly, even though I am not commercial but I will still work hard towards it.

Thats a really weird song...when I come across those ICF guys' xangas, they always have this song accompanied, and I have to say, I have to turn off my speaker everytime!

Why is this scheme called "I CAN FLY"...when NONE of them can fly???

Actually my friend who was in the first I Can Fly programme made it in the Cathay CPP, now in training for the Airbus A340.
Not all can fly, only one or two out of a thousand hello-kitty-like teenagers...

Its gotta be the most aggravating and monotonous piece of :mad: to listen to when stuck on hold on the Cathay line. Why on earth you'd want to listen to it by choice escapes me.

Cathay had a brilliant theme tune in the 70's (with no words)

I still here it from time to time and it always takes me back to my youth in HK

Any one else remember this, even better what the name of it was?

:cool:

The tune was "loves theme" by Barry White.

Very distinctive - whenever you boarded a "lettuce sandwich" anywhere in the world you immediately felt you were already 1/2 way back to HK.

Have a listen here:

That gets my vote for "Pprune Comeback of the Year"
Absolutely classic! :}

And that is just setting yourself up to get creamed.

I confess to having very fond memories of "Loves Theme" - but I thought it was Henry Mancini who wrote it. I remember being astounded hearing once on the radio years later, as at the time I thought it was something penned specifically for CX by ad men.

"Love themes" by Barry White, arguably one of he best advertising campaigns that Cathay ever produced, but of course that was in their heyday, Convairs and baby Boeings, the heady days of Kai Tak and the odd toot at the "Aero Club". Here's another link that will let you wallow in nostalgia http://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.html, and this one will lead you to some of the guys that all made it happen http://www.cathay classics.co.uk, enjoy.

Yes CX used Barry White from the USA, where they can get the best talent available in music and aviation! :D
