I was chatting to a WWII vet the other who reminisced about a Spitfire crash in the fields behind Boddington (located ,for those who don't know, a couple of miles north of Innsworth). He was too tired to pump for details about the date but I presume it was in the early years.

I've a bit of fruitless googling and I wondered if any ppruners could give me advice on how I could find out more.

Work your way through these lists, part 1 (http://www.rcawsey.fsnet.co.uk/glos1.htm), part 2 (http://www.rcawsey.fsnet.co.uk/glos2.htm), ticking off the locations outside a reasonable radius.

This might not be very useful if the Sptifire you refer to was not considered to be an 'operational' loss, but the following series of books is available and may be of some help:

Royal Air Force Fighter Command Losses of the Second World War: Volumes 1-3. Operational Losses: Aircraft and Crews.

Author: Norman L.R. Franks.
Publisher: Midland Publishing.

There are sister volumes for Bomber Command.
