Apologies for starting another easyJet thread, but using the search function didn't come up with any current relevant info.

Has anyone recently attended the workshop for DEP (particularly DEC) at Luton?

Any idea what the sim scenario is, and what extra bits will be done if applying for DEC position?

Thanks in advance.

Might be a CRM style sim coupled with how to deal with the many many disgruntled SFO's you will fly with who are waiting for command courses whilst you warm their seat for them!

Only kidding, but expect SID STAR and some minor emergencies, raw data work all probably from LTN jepp plates.

Thanks ezydriver. I did wonder if the decision to offer DEC positions may cause bad feeling with F/Os awaiting commands. :uhoh:

I am someone who is also seriously considering a move to easyJet but already knows something of the recruitment process. Instead I would prefer to hear feedback from crew (flight deck and cabin crew) about the day-to-day job and in particular how one enjoys/dislikes the 5/4/5/3 roster pattern.

Is it as tiring as they say? Do you enjoy the shorter routes? What are the pros and cons of operating a four sector day? Does the time off allow for adequate rest and socialising or are you just constantly fatigued? Is easyJet now a career airline?

Especially interested to hear from LGW crew.

I recently left easy@LGW mainly because of the 5/2/5/4/ rostering system. i have never been so tired in my career. Its not to bad to start with but once you've had a few changes and a couple of weeks in the system you begin to feel shell shocked. The new system of 5/3 5/4 should help but the recovery between earlies and lates is to short for me. The other reason is that it is very inflexable in terms of leave and roster swaps.

If you live near LGW you may find it agreeable it just didn't work for me!

That said there are a lot of good guys and gals to work with and management are trying to improve things as best they can however its a very slow process.

The biggest nightmare is the handling agent (circusair) constantly letting the ball drop and your left with the pi***d off pax. 2 hrs 20 flt time from AGP followed by 1hrs wait for steps on arrival is a common problem especially when your tired late at night.

The car parks are also a constant drag!

Apart from that not a bad job if your patient.

Hello gentlemen,
About applicating to DEP scheme. Do you have any idea about the average elapsed time between the online application and an answer from the recruitment staff?

It's been one month now for me...

Sorry but I'm not able to provide any helpful info.

Visionman
You can take the Undergroung (Metro) to King's Cross and in there get a Train that will take you to LTN. Additionally, I think it is also possible to go by coach (Bus) with Nationalexpress. Either way, I would allow at least 2 hrs for the trip (via the underground you go to central London then to the other airport, via the coach it depends on much traffic there will be).
No personal experience regarding accommodation but there are lots of hotels nearby LHR, some of which provide courtesy transport to the hotel, and some nearby LTN.

Good luck!!!

Visionman,

The Thisel hotel in Luton is a good hotel, giving special rates to Aircrew.

Good luck on the assesment

Visionman,

MAD is going to be an Airbus base. The only B737 bases are LTN, NCL and BFS (Luton, Newcastle and Belfast).

Are you not able to fly straight into LTN for your assessment?

Good Luck,

A4

Thanks guys,

If flying from LTN,NCL,BFS are you paid in euro or pounds? I ve heard that life is very expensive in UK,is that correct?
Do they want to change the entire B 737 fleet with Airbus?
For the moment I don t want to change my type rating and I don t want to be bonded and I want only continent base.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately I didn't make it :(

The sim was pretty straightforward (if I could have performed!).

SID followed by airways tracking to/from NDB. Some very minor general handling (steep turns, etc) followed by STAR and procedural ILS via a hold.
All done raw data (so PRACTICE beforehand  ). Although there was a briefing for a go-around, you didn't need to do it.. although the way my sim went, I should have :ugh:

To be fair, they gave me every chance to pass, but I simply had a bad day.

Good luck to everyone else who applies.

Manx, i'm off for an assessment with Easy on the 14th as direct entry F.O. Could you possibly post details of the Airport you do the Sim ride from and some details on what the Tech quiz focuses on and the interview any nasty bits ect?

P.S.
Was the holding and arrival part of your Sim because you are direct entry command or is that for every1?

Cheers:}

FO 737-800,

My sim detail was based on GLA 23 ILS. But I don't think it matters... it depends on different examiners on different days I believe. Within a week of my assessment I heard of other guys doing LPL or EMA profiles.

I was in the sim with a chap going for DEP (F/O) position, and he did the exact same as me, and he was successful (but he deserved it!).

The tech quiz is the same as was posted by others in the other ezy questions. Study the Cathay book and you'll be ok. The interview was very relaxed with just the 'normal' "give me an example..." questions.

Good luck and I SAY AGAIN... practice raw data flying!

Concerning the SIM session:

I prepared at home using MS Flightsim. Not kidding.:E
Not to learn flying raw data but to get an idea of the instrument layout
of a 737-300 and develop a scan etc. Believe it or not but I found that
to be a big point when I sat in a Boeing aircraft for my first time later
during the assessment day.

My airfield was as well GLA23, but with a very old chart which contained
everything of a standard instrument approach, like tracking NDB,
tracking VOR, procedure turn and finally an ILS. Get up to speed about
holding entries, TIMINGS (!) during procedural turns, headings etc.
You have to brief your colleague in the sim and you make easy points
with the instructor if you have all that stuff ready to use instead of
"err........heading.....err......110 for about......20 ?? seconds......"

Some tips:
Don´t try to be hero.
You´ll get a brief for speeds and configuration and my advice: stick to them.
Take the speed out early. You win time and can consider what to do next.
Keep vertical speed changes to a minimum. I found the 737 to be a bit
agressive in pitch so I kept the V/S very small like 500ft/min, thus avoiding
large thrust changes and guess what: the airplane flew easy and stable.

Fly the airplane. Avoid getting behind. BRIEF YOUR COLLEAGUE WHAT YOU DO.
CRM skills are appreciated. Share your thoughts if in doubt. Ask for
comments during briefings. ORDER what you need and FLY the airplane.

I found the sim day quite relaxed and in a nice atmosphere. No problems.

I passed by the way.

Good luck. :ok:

hi felow pilots:
i will be taken an assesment on the 9 and 10 of jannuary for easy, at the moment i´m a first officer in a flag airline, with all the benefits but with the slowing progression,
i´will apreciate any coments about leaving the security of o flag company to a low cost, i have applied for a SFO because i don´t have 500h PIC on a medium jet, but 6500 TT but with 3400 MD 87/88 AND 1800 F50 AS F/O, how long can expect to be promoted to capt, as you probably understand to remain in the right seat, i will wait in my company, and any info about waiting list in MAD base. Thanks in advance. it´s been very usefful all info the i have found about the assesment, thank you again

As far a I know, you might be considered for fast track command, which
means approx 6 months after you joined, provided your PERFORMANCE is ok!

I think MAD is still undercrewed and as this will be a major base in the
network, I would say you will be there either straight away or within 1 year.

Do DEP`s get paid from day 1 or is it still the same as with the TRSS that you don`t get paid till you finish your pre base training?

Yes DEP get paid from day 1 :ok:

CAT III DUAL
6th Dec 2006, 16:19
Yes you get money from the day they officially hire you, however its
only 90% for a period of 6 months after that date.

So month 1-6 after joining: 90% of basic salary
After 6 months: 100% salary.

Mildly relevant question..................

Are they taking DECs at age 60 plus? (given that it's now an option legally)
